More than met expectations!

I recently booked (at the last minute) for my parents, my girlfriend and I to stay at the Best Western Atlantico in Madrid, as we thought it would be nice to surprise my Dad for his Birthday by whisking him away on a city break.
As we had decided to book at the last minute, rooms were filling up fast, which meant that prices were rising by the hour and so, based on what I had read on Tripadvisor, I booked.
I was a little sceptical as to whether I had made the best decision having read the all of the previous reveiws, but on reflection I really need not have been. I have only two criticisms of the hotel: (1) The music played in the elevators and dining room is appalling (think dodgy club singer sings cheesy old soft rock covers but instead of the singer, dub it with "porn" saxophone and you're about there; and (2) Our rooms did not have exterior windows (which is fine, but given the choice I'd prefer a view - NB. I did not request such an amenity when I booked!).
I thought the hotel (rooms and communal area) was extremely clean, well presented and spacious. Our room comprised everything you could want, including a sink each and both standard and hydrotherapy showers (great for pummelling your shoulders after a long day spent trudging around museums and parks!). The staff were faultless, superb and extremely polite - they spoke better English than a lot of English people do nowadays and were attentive, efficient and made excellent recommendations for travel, restaurants, bars, sights etc.
The breakfast was generous, with an excellent variety (we had a coeliac travelling with us and she had plenty to choose from) and was superb value for money - a really good start to the day.
Probably the best thing about the Atlantico is the location. It doesn't get better than this if you want to be at the heart of the action in Madrid. It is walking distance to the majority of the main attractions (we didn't use public transport once and exhausted 90% of the sights in the Lonely Planet guide on foot!). Also, it is worth mentioning that even though is sits on the Gran Via (undoubtedly the busiest street in Spain's capital) the rooms in the hotel were extremely well sound-proofed and offered a lovely tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
I will definitely be checking out the Atlantico's availability if I return to Madrid in the future.

I just got back from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Atlantico in Madrid, Spain with 5 of my friends (we're in our late 20's). I thought the hotel was extremely affordable & clean. The rooms were not huge but did the trick for as much time as we spent in them. We never had a problem with hot water. The staff was friendly and recommended alot of local scenes and restaurants to check out. The hotel was perfectly located in the heart of the city within walking distance of all the major tourist attractions. I'd definetly stay there again and would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff speaks pretty decent english unlike the rest of the popluation in Madrid. :)
Very nice

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and our experience was just fine! The location could not be better - great for shoppers!! Lots of restaurants and bars nearby too, the pub attached to it is nice but really smoky, as most pubs are. The hotel staff were "ok", not the friendliest but they were helpful when needed and spoke english. The room was very clean and surprisingly quiet considering the busy location. If you have a car, be prepared to pay a little over 25 Euro PER DAY for parking. Only one garage to park in and it's about a 5 minute walk, which seems long with lots of luggage to bring up (no spot to pull up in front of hotel either). The front desk person said there could be places on the street nearby to park but it is "highly unrecommended". All in all, no complaints about the hotel. We were happy and comfortable there. Good value for Madrid!

You're closer to Atocha than to Chamartin. If you do Google Maps for "best western atlantico madrid" - then look for Atocha and Chamartin you will see. Atocha is close to the Prado museum - Chamartin is much higher up.

coming from Malaga, most trains will stop at Atocha station, some continue on the Chamartin. The next step is to figure out which metro stop you need to get off to get to your hotel. The Atocha railway station (and charmartin) connect into the Madrid metro system. Or you can walk.... not too bad, or you can taxi.... Karl

Yes, Atocha station; from there, take metro (line 1) to Sol, then, either walk up Calle de Preciados to Callao square, cross Gran Vía (then you will be on the even numbers side), walk to your right for some metres, and there the Hotel is
or
once in Sol, metro line 3 to Callao, take the even numbers side and the same
If you don't have a heavy case, I'd recommend you the first option unless you mind walking with the case
