Barcelo, Madrid, Ibiza.......Crazy??

by Drewskie

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I searched before posting so please bear with me. I am planning a trip in July/august to Spain. I would like to see Madrid, Barcelona, and party in Ibiza before leaving. I know it is summer and weather will be hot, but otherwise, what can I excpect at that time? Also, travelling from the U.S., what would be the best/cheapest play to fly into?? Once in Spain, which airlines offer the cheapest flights between cities? I think Ibiza will be last on the list. Thank you.

US is a big country;

Delta flies non-stop JFK-BCN for less than USD 400 in May. Search www.kayak. com for your connection.

www.vueling.com and www.clickair.com are low cost airlines in Spain for your internal flights.

Barcelo, Madrid, Ibiza.......Crazy??

July/August is the best time to be in Ibiza, you will find a lot of activity as it is the busiest time of the year over here. Make sure to have your hotel reservations well in advance as otherwisr they will be expensive and probably difficult to find. You can fly to Ibiza from Madrid or Barcelona. Vueling offers pretty good fares - www.vueling.com. Another way to get to Ibiza is a fast ferry from Barcelona or why not, from a well worth visitng city called Valencia- my home town. In August you have the formula one race taking place here apart from many other things to see and experience. Whatever you decide have a great time.
Best regards
Mahesh

Travel Tips for Madrid

Round and round...and round....

At the Warner Park.. in the Scooby Doo tea cups... Do you a favor and do not start spinning the cup before the ride starts? I was sooooooo dizzy when I got out that I had to sit for about 5 minutes to stop seeing the world turning around me...

Let's take to the Streets! Protest!!!

by jamiesno

Madrid is the center of Spain and its government so naturally if all other regions of Spain want to make a point to the government they have to trek to Madrid and make their case.

During my last day in Madrid you can see in this picture there was another protest. These people were from northern coastal Spain where there was a major oil spill and they wanted action from the government.

Their fishery and tourism industries where in ruins after this disaster.

Alternative District in Madrid

by Petit_Prince

If you want to see other things than the traditional Sol - Santa Ana - Plaza Mayor zone in terms of restaurants and nightlife, try the "Noviciado" area Calle de la Palma, Plaza de Comendadoras, Calle Cristo and Calle Conde Duque. You have quite a lot of places

The streets in this district are very lively, with a lot a little shops and an atmosphere similar to what it was 30 years ago. Calle Noviciado is full of little shops, very lively for example on saturdays morning.

- In Calle Palma: El Maño, Alacena de Paula as Restaurants, Bodegas Rivas for Beers and wine, Cafe Bar de la Palma for "Copas" and live music.

- In Plaza Comendadoras: La Taqueria de Birra, a mexican restaurant with a nice terrace, and Cafe Moderno for coffees and "copas", nice terrace too.

- In Calle Cristo, a lot of interesting places. This is a pedestrian street, quite short and charming.

Metro: Plaza de España and Noviciado.

Trendy shopping area

by vanessadb about Fuencarral area

The area surrounding the Street Fuencarral is imho a nice one to shop. You'll find lots of trendy boutiques for men´s and women´s clothes, the Mercado de Fuencarral (Indoor market @Fuencarral 45) with several clothing, bags and jewelry stores inside, and for shoes go to the Street Augusto Figueroa which is full of mostrarios, where they sell designer's shoe samples for half or less of their price.

It basically depends on the kind of music you like. For techno and that kind of stuff you can go around Moncloa (although it´s not a nice place for foreigners, and the people are too young). Bilbao and Alonso Martinez are ok. The 'beautiful people' hang around in terrazas (street terraces) during the summer all along Paseo de la Castellana, although this option is a bit expensive.
Nightclubs are open til 8 or 9 in the morning. My favorite is Soul Kitchen, in Callao, in which they play hip hop, soul and funky. You could also go a famous nightclub in Atocha, with 5 floors in which they play different kinds of musin, called Kapital. If you like rock, ska, punk and hard rock go to Malasaña. The Sol area and Huertas is good to have wine and dance spanish music.
I think all nightlife spots in Madrid are unique, depending on what kind of company you are looking for. I have met people from alot of coutries, but Spanish people are definately THE party animals!!! depends. No one will look at you weird if you aren´t dressed like them, except maybe the occasional ***.
