good budget hotel in Madrid
Just stayed here one night at the beginning of one of my trips to Spain. I selected it for location, which was excellent.
I got a nice back room on an upper floor, facing the Reina Sofia. Room was comfortable with high ceilings, not cramped at all. Clean and airy. elevator was tiny
This hotel gets a lot of tourist groups but the front desk doesn't appear to speak much english comfortably. I spoke spanish the whole time so it wasn't an issue for me and was given some very nice recommendations for restaurants etc during my brief stay at the hotel. hotel staff was polite and very responsive to any requests. In particular, I had an early train to catch from atocha and it was before they opened the breakfast room (though just by half an hour or so)
and they let me in and gave me something to eat and some coffee before i had to head out to catch the train. much appreciated.
Hotel is located on a busy road, so its not the quietest place to stay. since my room was facing the back there was no problem. However, one could hear the teenagers that were with one of the travel groups, who were giggling and laughing all night.
Unique Quality: great location- it is basically around the corner from Paseo del Prado and the three major art museums :prado, reina sofia and Thyssen are all within easy walking distance.
accessible by metro- the entry to the metro is practically right in front of the hotel at the end of the block. however, bear in mind that if you are carrying more than a carry on bag you will be carting your crap down long subway hallways and up and down stairs and escalators. not ideal in this sense.
directly across the street from Atocha Railway station- All i had to do was cross the street and down the incline was the railway station.
Would I stay there again. Yes
