what is the location like - safe, conveninient to metro etc, shoppingm restaurants, internet...??

Hi, I was there in a bussiness trip, it is a good hotel, no charming but functional and very well located. The area is safe and nice (next to Calle Serrano, the main commercial street of Madrid, were are the shops of top brands like Gucci, Dior, Loewe... so you can figure!). There is a metro stop nearby, so i't very esay to reach the old town.
By the way, the correct spelling is GALGOS, and here you have their webpage:

thanks again for your help. OK - i will book it now...they are giving early bird specials - to book before Jun 25th.. and I surely liked the sound of it close to nice shops!!! You will not believe me, but I did make a call to the LV shop in Madrid and asked if they were far from Melia Galgos!!! they said i be there in minutes!!!

Hahaha... not sure where exactly the LV shop is, but I've seen it wandering around the area. Even my budget ususlly don't allow me shopping there.... I do like 'window-shopping' the area!!!

The LV shop attendant was so nice...she even reserved an item for me (in Malaysia there is a 2 months wait list!!),and she said it will be there for me to pick up on my arrival.
Will it be sales (rebajas -this word i know already) period in Madrid like Benetton or Zara for kids, Gucci etc. I am really hoping my timing is good. I will be in Madrid around 17th July

Hotel Los galgos is a good hotel, belonging to a good chain: It is well located in a sae area of madrid and well communicated as well.

I forgot to answer you about sales season... these officially starts on 1st July and last a couple of months. Even some items can 'dissapear' on the first days, your timing is still quite good. Sure you find many things, and ever you may get better discounts!
