Parque El Capricho

by chellediva

I'm here in Madrid and looking for some cheap/free entertainment for the weekend not too far from the hotel. Our Metro station (El Capricho) is close and I've found mention of this park...how close is the Park to the Metro station? Trying to save trips into the city til later evening when it's not as hot to walk about. Any other ideas?

With a bit of detective work and the help of a German tourist couple, we found the park! It's not that far from the station to the north, but it does involve some trekking through a but of scrubby trail and an apartment complex parking lot. I have to say it was worth the search and we were able to help 3 others we met looking for it on our way back! Lovely place, but not that easy to find...need a few more signs! Good luck to future tourists!

Well I'm glad you found El Capricho. As you probably know, quite close to it it's also Parque Juan Carlos I. Much bigger, close to your place, you should go there, too. It's a very big place and being in the park doesn't seem like being inside a million city.

Jerca

Travel Tips for Madrid

Take a look at La Plaza Mayor ...

by catarata

Take a look at La Plaza Mayor and eat at the 'Mesones'(the Big Square and caves used as restaurants with typical spanish food). It´s always full of tourists, but it´s beautiful anyway. It was built in 1619.

If you're interested in theatre, you should visit Madrid during october and november. The autumm festival (Festival de Otoño) very interesting. In the regional government web you will find the complete program. You can take a look at the information of the 2000 autum festival:

And if you are interested in opera in the Teatro Real sometimes offers interesting productions:

Toledo

by fishandchips

Toledo is a great daytrip from Madrid and is only 45 minutes from the big smoke. It's feature building is the church which can be seen from quite a distance away. The area is quite warm being in the middle of Spain. Toledo is surrounded on three sides by a bend in the Tagus River . It was once the capital of Spain, though it lost its political status to Madrid in the 1500s. The big Cathedral is worth a visit here and it include El Greco's Twelve Apostles and Spoliation of Christ and Goya's Arrest of Christ on the Mount of Olives.

Delicates Shop and Gastronomy

by hartti about Mallorca

Mallorca is one of the most well-established food shops in Madrid. Close to Atocha, in this 2-floor shop you may find all the delicates sold in Spain. There are bars and cafeterias, too. Established in 1931 it sells a wonderful selection of cheeses, meats, canapés, pastries and chocolates.

LOS DELIRIOS

by parsix

Los Delirios is a trendy bar/ restaurant of Mexican owners. The Menu includes many varietites of Asian/ American/ European Cusine.

Los Delirios occupies the spot of what used to be the very famous Spaniard Cerveceria de Correos.

The owners and Managers are good friends and therefore this has been a meeting point for our group of friends. A good place to watch soccer games as they have many screen tv.
