Great Location but...

Hotel/Hostal Marlasca was in a very good location – by the pedestrian la Puerta del Sol area. That and the fact that the room was very clean were probably the only 2 positives about the place. Oh, and there was a large, adorable dog in the reception area. We squeeeezed into the teeny, tiny elevator – where we would later have some laughs about the tight fit – and went to check in.

The hotel was probably somewhere between a 2 and 3 star experience. The room was very tiny, the little, little TV only had Spanish speaking stations, and worst of all was the fact that it was warmer then normal for this time of year (April) and there was no air conditioning (not turned "on" yet) – not even any fans. The windows opened onto a breezeless inner courtyard. Had we had A/C I think it would have been a much better experience, and overall I do think the hotel was a good value.

Best thing was that there were so many bars and restaurants (and stores) within walking distance.

Nice hostel

I would recommend the Hostal Marlasca to anyone. It's clean, has great air conditioning and not badly priced. The location is on a pretty quiet street within a couple of blocks from the Puerta del Sol. I was very happy with my stay. However, if the keepers try to give you the room next to the stairs, decline it. Unless you plan on coming in later than all other patrons, you will hear each one of them come at all hours of the night and morning.

it was easy to book online and the staff spoke English.

Hostal Marlasca

Hostal occupies 3d and4th floor in the old Madrid building. The interior was rennovated a couple of years ago and looks very nice.
Hostal has single, double, triple and quadruple rooms. All are eqipped with shower/tub and toilet, TV and telephone. Rooms are nice and clean.

Unique Quality: Fantastic location of this small hotel makes it appealing both for long and short stays in Madrid.
It is in the old district of Madrid a couple of minutes walk from Puerto del Sol and Gran Via.
The area is just packed with bars, restaurants and different hostals for any price and occasion.
On weekend nights Cruz district is invaded by herds of youngsters having fun in numerous tapas bars and small discos.

Reasonable, Not Dirt Cheap

We picked this Hostal because it was right near the Plaza Santa Ana, and the location IS great. When I was there last year, it was pleasant inside, with many of the rooms able to accomodate 3 or more people. However, I booked it again this year (2003), a room for 4 people. When we arrived, late a night, we were told they had no rooms left, and that they had arranged us another room, in another Hostal. Fine, it was just around the corner. BUT it was €20 more per night! Not that much between 4 of us, but still! So ... be careful!

Unique Quality: Perfect Location!

Good value at Hostel Marlasca

by madridfan

I spent 2 nights at Hostal Marlasca I will use the term nights but as Iwe did not get to bed until 4am the 1st night and 6.30am the second I did not spend a lot of time in the room. The Salsa club around the corner was really good. cost was 52 Euros per person 2 nights.very centrally located a few minutes from Sol.clean Room etc (calle Cruz)

I cannot think of a better way so spend a lazy sunday morning than to head for the Retiro Park especially if it is a sunny Day.Buy a Bocadillo etc and watch the world go buy.To call the Retiro a Park is doing it an injustice. Some of the views are outstanding. The kids will lovethe park as there were cartoon characters wandering around providing entertainment,as well as a large play area. After a few hours just go to the Prado next door.
