We stayed at the Melia Castilla for 1 night (December 2007) because we arrived in Madrid earlier than planned and there was no availability at the Ritz where we stayed for the rest of our stay. We booked 2 rooms through Wotif.com for a very reasonable price 110 euro per room. This hotel was not centrally located, however as we had a car it wasn't a major problem for us. The rooms and bathrooms were very comfortable, clean and well equiped, as you would expect from a quality business hotel.
Unique Quality: The outstanding feature of the hotel was the fantastic Christmas decorations in the foyer and the waiting areas. Although this hotel is large and does not have that "cosy boutiquey" feel, the elegance of the Christmas decorations made it a memorable hotel for us
I had hard time trying to pronounce the name of this hotel, until i relised that the double "LL" isnt pronouced.
The hotel is where the Saudi Airline crew stay,it's nearer to the airport than city center, but still not that far away of most attractions.
the room is really spacious (not European standerd).
Unique Quality: The toilet had a beddet
This is Madrid's largest hotel. Many airline crews stay here. Although it's in the business center and not the tourist center, it's very accesible to the subway and there are always taxis (my favorite mode of transport) outside. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are great - very colonial Spanish (yellows, blues). The bathrooms are quite nice with a separte room for bath/shower and toilet/bidet. Luxurious linens, good TV, quiet...although I wish the air worked a bit better.
Unique Quality: The Melia Castilla has a nice pool but if you are there after 1PM, the sun goes behind the building next door - so it's just a good place to look at the sexy flight attendants (hee hee).
The restaurant that serves paella is very very expensive. You can find cheaper and better paella elsewhere.
Ask the concierge for some good restaurants in the area. One is just around the corner and is excellent with an incredibly courteous and efficient staff.
Directions: Business district
