Rastro

My boyfriend will arrive Sunday morning at Madrid.... Will he still be able to go to the flea market?
Re: Rastro
by Belsaita
well, it depends on how early he arives. Most stalls are there until around 2 PM. However I think there are many better ways to spend a Sunday morning in Madrid... Maybe beacuse I lived near El Rastro for a while (so I suffered the noise, the crowds and the pickpockets there)

hola, isa!
he arrives 8.20am in Madrid.... plans to visit his family in Madrid, but i've asked him to get me some stuff at rastro :)

Hehehe...
The hotel is in Gran Via, right? I'm afraid is not walking distance, unless your bf lots to walk a lot!! (with lots of stuff may not be the best idea). Is about 5 or 6 metro stops, involving a change or lines

famous locals
by ger4444
In the barrio de los literatos you find the birthouse of Cervantes, who wrote Don Quichot. in the plaza espagna there is a statue of him. In this same writers quarter Vega a famous playwriter lived also. Zorilla lived in the Huertas neighboorhood and wrote his world famous Juan Tenorio play. Famous painters who lived in Madrid were Velazaques and Goya. Velazquez excelled in his work las meninas. Goya painted the famous third may. Madrid also is the place where world's best architects came to build the buildings that made Madrid so special. Sabaitini build the Palacio Real, Gomez de la Mora build the plaza Mayor.
Plaza de la Villa

There is the Mayoralty (Casa de la Villa) on Plaza de la Villa. Palacio Lujanes has been constructed in the XV century in the Arabian style. Palace Casa de Cisneros has been constructed in XVI century in the Renaissance style.
Local Crafts
by keeweechic about Souvenirs
The traditional crafts of Spain are evident in the flamenco wear on display in the form of shawls, fans and lace mantillas. There are also much in the way of leatherware (shoes, bags to be found as well as traditional and decorative ceramics. Around the tourist spots you will always find souvenir vendors.
Nighlife in Madrid is great....
by zumodemango
Nighlife in Madrid is great. Lots of differents places to go: dancing, drinking and eating tapas(small dishes with different food), only a beer!
Lots of different areas. It's amazing because you can go out everynight.
My place for a WEEKDAY or a coffe on SUNDAY AFTERNOON is called CAFE BELEN(Belén, 5)Picture on the left.
It is a small cafe/bar where you can chat/drink something and you don't need speakers to hear the conversation. Music is quite nice, and there are always pictures exhibitions on the walls. You can't miss the table at the back with a world map inside. Part of the floor is old and beautiful in brown and the colums are gorgeus!!!
FRIDAYS AnD SATURDAYS:
Go to LA COCTELERIA to start the night(minas,1 Metro Noviciado) junkstore-chic style for your mojitos. The perfect chill-out.
DUCADOS CAFÉ (Plza. de Canalejas 3)is another option for your mojitos and daiquiris. Nice music and friendly people upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs: enjoy the wonderful Cuba photos! Downstairs: see the starts in the roof, beatiful fishes!
To go clubbing (on Saturday: everything crowded, you can't even dance) you can choose between my 2 favourites clubs:
#1. NASTY CLUB in San Vicente Ferrer,35(Metro Tribunal). Only if you like and dance electronic music!!!#2. POLANA Barbieri, 10(Metro Chueca) feel free dancing all kind of music, go late(3a.m).
Perfect Sunday morning post Rastro or if you haven't slept, any bar in La Latina area: starting in packed EL BONNANO(Pl del Humilladero, 4) Spanish tapas bar serving 'boquerones', cañas(beers) and copas(alcohol drinks). I love the nests with eggs on the walls and claras(lemon with beer).
