please can you tell me what platform I need for the Seville AVE train at Atocha? also directions at Chamartin to the Cercanias platform to Atocha

Once at Atocha, since you will come from a cercanias train, leave the cercanias area and walk to the left. You must go up to the first floor and cross the luggage control. Platform 14 is usually used for the AVE train to Sevilla.
I don't usually go to Chamartin station, sorry, I cannot help about.

Travel Tips for Madrid

Internet Access on Gran Via

by emoja

When I emerged from the Gran Via subway station onto the street, my first mission was to find an internet cafe and write home to my family. I found one within a block of the big McDonald's right outside of the subway station exit. There's a sign outside of the restaurant advertising "Internet Access."

The ground floor is a really large restaurant by European standards, and upstairs (loft-style) are computers for internet access. You put coins into slots on the desk and you're online. Cost is around 2 euros for a half hour.

Thyssen-Bornemisza (4)

Overview. It gets interesting as we arrive at the realism, one of my favourite periods. The Sluise by Constable is a good example of this period. The birth of modern art started with the world famous exibition in the Paris Salon the refuses where the impressionsim was represented and Manet, Degas and Renoir are one of the best known. The Dancer by Degas is a good example. Also Van Goghs" Les Vessenots in Avers is to be seen.

So Many Things To Do... So Little Time!

by Krystynn

DON'T leave Madrid without trying out the following things (I'm sure you'll never forgive yourself if you do miss it!):

(1) Catch a fiery Flamenco show

(2) Watch an exciting Bullfight (Corrida). I know I'd surely step on a few toes if I were to say this. But it is indeed one of the national pastimes here!! The bullfighting season lasts from May to October and there is a major bullfighting ring in the city center. Please check with your hotel concierge for more details.

(3) Try a dish of Paella (seafood rice). You can try out some of the best paellas here in Madrid.

(4) Drink a glass of Sangria (a nice alcoholic cocktail drink)! I love this drink.

(5) Take up Flamenco dancing and make Joaquin Cortes (did I spell his name correctly?) jealous.

Alcalá de Henares

by Carmela71

Alcal? de Henares university is one of the most important monuments to see, was founded by Cardinal Cisneros, under the reign of Isabelle la Cat?lica.

he main sites to visit in Alcal? de Henares are the old university with its famous renaissance fa?ade and the buildings of the old Colegios Mayores.

Alcal? de Henares can be reached by the Cercan?as trains on lines C2 and C7

Buses leave from Continental Auto.

To get there by car one should take the N-II

Intense artistry

by maestrousmc about Flamenco

Whether you chose a more touristy version or some of the more low-key local options ensure that include flamenco in your Madrid itinerary. This uniquely Spanish dance form truly captures the vibrance and energy of the Iberian peninsula. Most venues offer dinner with the ticket as well as a drink only option. The option with dinner tends to be over priced so I recommend looking for a well-recommended tasca before making your way to the show.

There are several venues in Madrid and your hotel concierge or front desk should be able to recommend and book a reservation for you.
