The staff were all very friendly, especially Ivan and Juan. The food was pretty good at the restaurant, though pricy... 15 euro for a breakfast not worth 15 euro.
I stayed in a single room one night, and a double room the next The single room was quite small, and the double was gigantic. And each was only 88 euro per night... go figure?
Everything was very clean and the rooms had a nice, simple look to them. Next time I need a hotel in Madrid I will probably go back to the NH Zurbano.
Unique Quality: NH Zurbano has a fantastic deal going on... if you are under 30 years old and stay on a weekend, you can qualify for rooms at 58 euro per night. You will get a nice room too... I wish I'd known about this deal before I booked!
The location is very nice, it is a short walk from the Gregorio Marañon metro station, and right by the Paseo Castellano. A short 5 minute walk north brings you to a giant Corte ingles. There are some nice restaurants in the area, and it is a very safe neighborhood. It is also within walking distance of the Museo de Ciencias Naturales.
Also, I believe there is always at least one person working who is fluent in English and German.
Directions: 2 blocks from the metro stop Gregorio Marañon, in a very nice neighborhood. On C/ Zurbano in between C/ Joe Abascal and C/ Breton de los Herreros.
