New Airport bus?
by piglet44
I heard there is a new bus which goes from the airport to downtown. Does anyone know any details? where from, how often and where does it stop? thanks!
Re: New Airport bus?
by unaS
I took a bus direct from Plaza Catalunya to Madrid airport when I left Madrid.
When I arrived I took the metro directly from within the airport.
Both are convenient.
Seems that there are number of buses from each of the 4 Terminals.
See details here:

Train details are here but the train does not run directly from the airport:

When I traveled, Belsiata told me to take the metro to the Cercanis station to get the Barcelona train. It worked well for me.

Travel Tips for Madrid
Madrid food recipes
by Danalia
When you in Madrid, same as the whole Spain, food become an important part of your life. At the beginning , we just came in and out from restaurants , but later on I started to ask around about the Madrid and Spanish food, visited local people homes and kitchen and look at the net for the same things I ate a night before.
At the beginning , my Spanish wasn't that good, so I was looking for the recipes in English only. Later on I could read then in Spanish as well.
I was looking for more recipes at the net and not only from my private recipes book, cuase I know there is a different with measurement from place to place.
You don't have to stick to the recipe, use your imagination from time to time, and enjoy.
You absolutely must not miss...
by catarata
You absolutely must not miss The Rastro of Cascorro, one of the most emblematic signs in Madrid.
This area is known primarily for the flea market (purportedly the world's largest) held on Sundays and holidays from about 10AM to 2PM. This market is a must-see for visitors, the streets of the entire area filled with stalls selling just about every imaginable sort of goods. Even if you're not interested in buying anything, it's worth coming by to stroll around and feel what is still a very genuine market atmosphere, then perhaps finish off your visit with a few tapas.
I would caution the visitor to this area that not everything sold in the Rastro is a bargain, and particularly cheap items may have been stolen. Indeed, be careful of your own wallets and handbags in around the market, since the very crowded streets are a haven for pickpockets
Stamp and coin Market
by Carmela71
At Sunday mornings at Plaza Mayor you can find this market, here you can see people changing, buying and selling, mainly stamps and coins, but also magic cards, and any kind of collection you can imagine.
This and the rastro on Sundays are something on my memories of Madrid since I was a child!
Discover Alcala de Henares!
by Jefie
Alcala de Henares, the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, is a small city located only 30 km away from Madrid. For some reason, it doesn't seem to be as popular a daytrip destination as Toledo and Segovia, and yet the city has a lot to offer to those interested in history: the very first Spanish university was founded in Alcala de Henares in 1499, and in 1486, Christopher Columbus first met with Queen Isabella I of Castille in the city's Archbishop's Palace, which also happens to be the birthplace of Queen Catherine of Aragon, King Henry VIII's first wife. So on a rainy Saturday morning, I hopped aboard a train along with fellow VTer Nico (white_smallstar), and we spent an entire day walking around the lovely streets of Alcala de Henares. Want to find out more about this off-the-beaten-path destination? Just check out my Alcala de Henares travel page!
Salamanca
by tweetycaro about Zara, Women's Secret, Chanel, Armani,....
Calle de serrano an Calle de José Cortega y Gasset are the main shoppingstreets in Salamanca. This is a more exclusive neighbourhood in Madrid with all the big brands, Tod's, Versace but also with Massimo Dutti, El Corte Inglès. Whatever your purse can spare...
