Hotel Hesperia or Sofitel (now Mercure)

by Just-

Hello every one

Need an opinion about two hotels for a long weekend in Madrid

Option 1:
Sofitel in PLAZA DE ESPANA which since November is the Mercure
Suite bedroom
http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-1320-mercure-madrid-plaza-de-espana-ex-sof/index.shtml
http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-1320-mercure-madrid-plaza-de-espana-ex-sof/index.shtml

or

Option 2:
Hotel Hesperia Madrid Paseo de la Castellana, 57 Madrid, Spain
Normal/Standard room
http://www.lhw.com/property.aspx?id=422

Considering the location of both places which one is more recommended for a touristy weekend? they both seem very close to the metro but to be honest I tend to walk more then use the metro when I can.

According to the Mercure website the hotel only have ONE suite, so it is either amazing or really bad, but it is 4 start, compared to a 5 start standard room it could be better just a normal room in a 5 star.

Anyway wanted to know people opinion

thanks for your help everyone

I'd choose Sofitel, more to see nearby

I agree with Santi, the Hesperia is a ways North of the City centre. Most of the touristy areas start about a 1+ mile south by metro Banco de Espana. If you use the metro it is a snap as the Madrid metro system is great and easy to use. However, if you are going to walk you have a mile of unintersting walking to do, unless you head through Chueca to Gran Via where I always find the petty drug dealers and hookers on the corners amusing. Travel Tips for Madrid

Your very own neighborhood

by morgane1692

Back in the olllld days, these tiled street signs were a way for those who could not read, to get around town. Today, they still make fine directional aids. And it's cool to have your own square in such a city as Madrid, isn't it? (Rhetorical question there...of course it is!)

If you can decide when to come to Madrid, it´s better to live one of its holidays. The best days are:

Fiestas de San Isidro (8-15th of May: local holiday wwhich consists of concerts in the street, expositions, dancing, typical clothes, bullfighting, etc...
Christmas: It´s quite Konwn the atmosphere of Madrid during this holidays and specially its New Year night (Join people in la Puerta del Sol, it should be unforggetable).

Chinchón: so close and so far

by andal13

Probably the most picturesque and delightful town at Provinica de Madrid, Chinchón seems to live at 16th century. The village lays nearby a hill with a ruined castle on the top, protagonist of bloody fights in the past.
Narrow streets, balconies, and a special atmosphere, makes Chinchón an unforgettable place.

(If you want more information, you can check my Chinchón page.)

XCALIBUR DISCO

The best place for enjoying with Heavy Music. The decoration is unique: it seems to be a castle with candles and so on, as in the Middle Ages. Although you don't like this kind of music, this is a place you have not to miss if you really like night life.
Waiting for pictures ... Whatever you want :-) It's desirable to put on a leather jacket and a long hair, but don't change your look to visit it!
