Poker In Madrid?

by asaustrup

Hola,

We are Madrid for this whole week. Several members of our group enjoy playing Poker (for low stakes). Are there places in Madrid where there are regular friendly poker games. These days quite a few bars in the states host a low cost game say one night a week. Is there anything similar to this in Madrid?

Thanks,

Arne

Gamblig in principle is not legal in Spain , except for the authorised places
Nevertheless people plays in discrete areas of some bars but you need to be "involved" with the players group
Pedmar suggestion is right , in the Madrid Casino you may play

My thanks for the helpful replies. We did not find any poker in Madrid but we found more than enough fun to keep us very occupied. What a great town!

Cheers,

Arne

Travel Tips for Madrid

Palacio Cristal

by Jitka_79

The Retiro Park in Madrid is one of the sights every tourist guide recommend. It is right to do so. The Palacio Cristal is wonderful just to look at (and of course to go into - there are exhibitions). I liked all the coloured trees around the small lake in front of it.

Manners

When it comes to sightseeing, you are supposed to have a decent look. Put a way your shorts and flip-flops and wear a linen pants with sandals. Women wear sundresses, no beach wear or short skirts please. You ll be respected it you appear in class. Public swearing is not done, no Jesus or God name abbusing. Since 2006 there is a smoking ban. But there are (luckely) eneough pubs that don’t apply the rule. Learning some basiscs of spanish can be helpful. Madrilenes are very open people and like to make a chat to foreigners especially when they show that they try to speak spanish, the madrilines will try to use their bits of english. They greet you by shaking hands. womesn are to be kisses twice on the cheecks. Dont go sitting at a table with strangers thats considered highly rude.Bullfighting is very popular amongst Madrilenes, so don’t start arguing on this matter if you find bullrighting cruel.

Estacion Atocha

Probably one of the most railway stations you find in Spain. It has glass and iron and a beautifull garden inside with palmtrees. next to this old building you ll find the modern one, used for the AVE train.

Authentic Flamenco

by cimc about Cafe Chinitas

If you go to the second show which starts at about 11 you may be lucky enough to see one of the real stars of Spanish Flamenco. You will notice that there are only tourists at the first show but that Spaniards are at the second. Also during the second show there is only a 2 drink minimum in addition to the cover which saves you having to eat the appaling food. This is a pricey place about E25 in but is really worth it.
