Museums - english translations

by aeb

Interested in visiting the following museums, but if many of the exhibits, especially at the museum of the Americas were only in Spanish, it might not be worthwhile. Could anyone tell me if there are guided tours in english, audio guides, or explanations in english available at any/all of these museums
Museo de America
Traje Museum - fashion museum
Museo Romantico
Museo Casa Lope de Vego.

Second question - I have read that there is free admission at many of the museums in Madrid on Wednesday evening. Other site say the free day is Sunday. Which is correct.

Many thanks to anyone who can help

I have returned from Madrid and am answering this question myself for the benefit of anybody else interested in the information

The Museo America provides and audio guide in english.
Museo Case Lope de Vego offers a guided tour in english each morning but it needs to be booked in advance
The Madrid tourist office at plaza Mayor, 27, offers walking tours in English for just 4 euro, including medieval madrid on Tuesdays at 10.00, and Cervantes' Madrid on Fridays

The Prado offers free admission every evening from 18.00 hours
The Reina Sofia also allows free admission from 19.00
The Palace is free to EU citizens on Wednesdays but be sure to bring your passport to prove citizenship.

Travel Tips for Madrid

My Home Town!

by aeroarce

Here Is where I was born, I grew-up, and stil living! and each time that time pases, and each time I travel more and more more I love my city. Walking around over the wet and leavescovered streets on a colourful autum, it's afternoon summer storms in August and it's wet smell before it happens. Its cafes at Chueca and walking without any destination in Centro.

Spend at least half day exploring PRADO's collection which comprises of Spanish paintings, Flemish & Dutch paintings, Italian paintings, French paintings & German paintings. Pictured here is GOYA's collection of the Naked Maja where he tacked the subject of nudity.

WOMEN. Women wear casual shirts (long-sleeved and short-sleeved), shorts, skirts, Capri pants, dresses, gym shoes, sandals, and swimwear. You will want to add a sweater or jacket if you are heading out near the water in Costa del Sol. Women will be denied entrance into churches if arms are bare or skirts are too short. Shorts are not permitted in religious institutions. A nice evening outfit is suitable if you plan on eating in an expensive restaurant.

MEN. Men favor casual shirts (short-sleeved and long-sleeved), shorts, slacks, tie, dinner jacket, gym shoes, sandals, and swim trunks. Men who desire to dine in expensive restaurants will need to wear a coat and tie. Men may not be permitted into religious sites while wearing shorts. Spain uses 220 volt, 50 cycles, AC for its electricity. Travelers will need electrical converters to operate American appliances. A plug adapter is needed because the electrical plugs have a different configuration than those in the United States.
During summer days, dress in lightweight sport and casual clothing. Spain’s dress is "smart." Swimwear is seen in and around the resort areas, but people usually do not wear swimsuits away from the beach. Evenings may be cool, so a jacket is needed for night activities. Luggage cannot exceed 44 pounds per passenger. If you are purchasing the Ambassadair ground package, then your trip includes porterage for one bag per person. If the flight is on an L-1011 aircraft, American Trans Air requires that all suitcases with wheels are checked at the ticket counter—the airline will not permit them to be carried on the aircraft.

Another curious street name: "Calle del Codo" (Elbow's Street). This narrow street at ancient Madrid bends like an elbow, as we suspect from the begining.

Otro nombre curioso para una calle: "Calle del codo". Esta callejuela en el Madrid antiguo se acoda, como lo sospechamos desde un principio.
