Loved the Hotel Urban!!!

We just stayed at the Hotel Urban earlier this month and absolutely loved it. The staff was most helpful in terms of restaurant recommendations, driving/walking directions, general advice, etc.. - although we definitely found the daytime staff much more helpful than the evening folks.. The rooms were not large, but efficient with their space.. very high-end modern design which we like.. The only complaint I had about our room was that it was very dark and since the nearby bldgs are so close by, you have to keep your shades down which keeps the room completely dark no matter what time of day.. I like more natural lighting so that would be my only negative feedback, really. The location is great. Walking distance to Plaza del Sol, Plaza Mayor, even Plaza Espana.. Also Retiro Park, the Prado, Thyssien museum, most everywhere. We had a blast in Madrid and the Hotel Urban was a big part of that!
If you don't have breakfast included in your rate, then just walk to the left of the hotel maybe 1/2 a block and there is a great little cafe. It will save you the 10-15 Euro for each breakfast!
Welcoming art hotel

We spent 3 nights over a weekend at Hotel Urban and what a find. Thank you to the other reviewers for their recommendations. Hotel Urban is a great compliment to their sister hotel. Fantastic rooftop entertainment area with a lively bar and restaurant. Excellent security tops off a memorable experience. First class service by all team members and a great breakfast. This is a must stay Madrid hotel. Aside from the great location and wonderful Egyptian artefacts, in the middle of summer the warmth and cool and welcoming atmosphere made it a delight to come home to after a day out visiting one of the worlds great cities. This is a must experience hotel.
Disappointing service

I recently stayed at the Hotel Urban (April). The staff was not very flexible and at times rude. We had booked a cultural package which included the use of the hotel car for a half day. Sounds nice in theory, but the car was simply not available during our stay and the staff didn't bother about it. Another example: The room rate included breakfast, however being two minutes late for official breakfast times I was just sent away and not even given a coffee.
Cool Place

Wow, I booked recently for the Urban hotel but I did not realize it was a place such a cool place until I experience it, I definitively find the building an impressive construction full of details all around, a mixture of modern architecture and ancient sculptures. Personally I was put up in a spectacular room which had a beautiful piece of art. In few words a spectacular hotel.
Simply Superb

We have just spent 3 days in Madrid and chose the Hotel Urban after hearing good news about the hotel. It was superb. From the second we were walking to the front doors our bags were taken off us and the customer service started. The staff were brilliant. The interior of the hotel is fast becoming a small attraction in itself with the locals and other holiday makers wishing they had chosen this hotel. On arrival I was extremely surprised that we were offered a choice of rooms and shown each one so that we could choose the style that suited us. From other reviews on the site many have noted the street at the front hotel. For us we actually chose this view as we found that looking at the rear rooms some of them were a bit cramped and had no view. The double glazing is excellent, so to be honest we had no problem with the street. In fact it made for excellent viewing. As for the room well I have attached some photos and as you can see well worth the money, and everything you would want from a 5 Star hotel. A nice bonus for the hotel is that past reception there is a free internet terminal which is useful for checking flights. As for location you cant go wrong here. 5-10 mins to the Del Prado, and the stunning parks, and literally 5 mins walk to the main centre and the attractions. A small tip if you fancy decent tapas turn left out of the hotel and walk a few mins down the road and you’ll find the Museo de Jamon, cracking service and ambience with the locals. All in all for a weekend break you wont get better than this hotel. Going back again sometime.
Would highly recommend this hotel

Just returned from 3 nights in the Urban Hotel. Thought the hotel was fabulous and I found all the staff really helpful and friendly. Our room was located on the 4th floor and whilst it did not have a view as it was situated at the back of the hotel, the room was very quiet. The actual room was quite large and included a sofa and large TV. Bathroom was very modern and we were given bathrobes, slippers and great toiletries were supplied!
Our deal included breakfast which for a european breakfast was of a good standard. We also ate in the hotel one night and thought the food was really good.
What really makes this hotel is the stunning pool and bar area on the roof. The pool was freezing cold but in the summer tempatures in Madrid, it is really welcome! The bar on the roof is open until 3.00pm every night and does fill up but watch the prices in the evenings as they really rocket! Drinks cost us nearly three times more than what we paid in the daytime and the hotel confirmed they are cheaper in the daytime as only residents of the hotel are allowed on the roof area whereas in the evening the roof bar is open to non-residents, hence the prices are hiked up.
I would throughly recommend this hotel. The location is great - very central and there are some great locals bars and loads of places to eat just round the corner. Don't bother with hiring a car, you can easier get round on foot or by using the subway. The hotel supply you with a map that was really easy to use.
One word of warning, whilst checking out we heard another guest complaining that they had not been able to sleep because of noise from the street. We also read this on a review on trip adviser before we came and therefore would recommend you ask for a room at the rear of the hotel. You may not get a view but at least you will be able to get a good nights sleep or not - as Madrid is a city that stays up late! Enjoy your trip.
Loved the Pool

I stayed in the Urban Hotel for a wedding of two of my friends. For me it was the first time in a such a hotel and certainly not the last one. The staff was very friendly. The room was very good, nice wooden floor, very nice bed, beautiful bathroom, very good lights and a very nice tv. My room was on the right side of the hotel were there wasn't much noise from the street. The roof was spectacular. A nice swimmingpool, not very big but always better than nothing by a temperature of 39 degrees. Not many hotels in Madrid have a pool (at the roof). The leather seats (white) at the pool were very very comfortable. Only the prices of a beer at the roofbar at night were a bit too high (€10). By day the price was € 3,50. However I enjoyed my stay at the Urban very much. If I go back to Madrid I certainly will go back to the Urban.
Relax...

What I must enjoy during my stay at the hotel, apart from the soft linen sheets were the magnificent meals at the “Europa Decó”, great taste and unique presentations. Moreover I recommend passing a relaxed evening taking some cocktails at the Glass Bar and enjoy the view to the rush of the city while you are taking a delicious Urban cocktail.

Hi,
Can someone please recommend a good hotel in Madrid that meets, or comes close to meeting, the following criteria:
1. Close to nightlife, restaurants, etc.
2. Reasonably priced
3. Trendy or modern
Thanks for the help!

We stayed in the Hotel Santo Domingo, very convenient, clean, and decent breakfast. This is a Best Western, so if you go to bestwestern.com you see others, and (although not on your list of requirements) wich easy access to the metro. Close to *everything*. I also met a lady on the way back who stayed at one of the other Best Westerns (sorry, don't have time to look up which one) - but this was even less expensive, and she liked it very much - but for any hotels along La Gran Via or any of the busy streets, make sure you request a room away from the street. Sometimes the "best available rates" have pretty good deals. Not luxury, but clean, comfortable, and well situated.

Hi
The Urban Hotel - http://www.derbyhotels.es/eng/urban_in.htm - is in a great location and is funky with a capital F. So is the Quo Hotel but I can't find their website - try http://www.tablethotels.com/Hotel/-/6720/?google=1.
