BADAJOZ - Walled Citadel
"Peninsular War Battle Site"
We came to see the walls of the city and enjoyed clambering over and around them to get an insight into the degree of difficulty faced by Wellington's troops in April1812 when they took the city from the French forces ensconced within the walls and in five external "forts" around the walled area. The attack resulted in success but at the cost of nearly 5,000 casualties.Battle of Badajoz
"Badajoz - modern go-ahead city"
Badajoz is a wonderful place to visit even without the 1812 historical focus. The Archeological Museum housed in the Alcazaba is a must see. Nearby is the stunning Plaza Alta. (approx 38º52'52.75"N, 6º58'03.93"W)
