Arco de la Estrella

Arco de la Estrella ( Star's Arch ) was built in the 18th century by Manuel de Larra Churriguera and it's Barroque style. It was built over a 15th century construction and it's wide so that the carriages could pass without difficulties. In the back side (when you arrive from Plaza Mayor - Mayor Square ) there is a statue of Virgen de la Estrella ( Star's Virgen ), from which the arch was named after.
This arch is considered to be the main entrance to the Old City / Monumental City, since it was choosen by the Catholic Queen in 1477 and by the king Fernando "The Catholic" in 1479, to pledge the city's municipal charter.
This arch is also known as Puerta Nueva ( New Door ) since it was the last entrance to the Old City to be built in the walls.
Arco de Santa Ana

Arco de Santa Ana ( Santa Ana's Arch ) was built in the 18th century, on top of a former gate. On top of the arch there is a Santa Ana image olding Jesus with Virgin Mary.
On the left side of the arch there are the remains of a defensive tower and on the right side there is another arch with nice brick work, typical of Cáceres.
