We came for the harmonious configuration of the Plaza Major but left with undying respect for the White Storks and just a little disrespect for the forefathers of the town Pizzaros who are now vilified for their actions against the Incas. Is it pure coincidence that Ludwig van Beethoven chose "Pizzaro" as the name of the Bad Guy in his only opera, Fidelio??
Wow - when the LP said Trujillo was a piece of the past, they were right. I felt Pizarro was going to return home any minute from his conquests in South America.
A smallish town, Trujillo had a lot to see in a small area. This pic out of our hotel right at the Plaza Mayor looked onto the Plaza, Church and Castillo. In the morning, I climbed up top to watch the sun rise over Extremadura. Yes, there were tourists, but for the most part, the full regular crowd in the Plaza in the evening were the locals.
