A Queimada: A Quiet Retreat

A Queimada is a quaint little hostal located between Nigran and Baiona. It's a little hard to find because it's off the beaten path and the roads are narrow and winding and can go off in numerous directions. There are a few signs though pointing you the right way. If you've seen a picture of the building, you'll know you're there when you see the hugh shade tree out front which seems to be almost like a landmark to that area.

When we finally arrived, the owner, who also runs the place, was very helpful and friendly. We checked in which only took a few minutes then took the elevator to our room on the second floor. The room was clean and simply decorated. It had two single beds, our own private bathroom, TV, telephone and a built in hairdryer. It was a little small for us because we travel with everything but the kitchen sink... I'm sure for most people who travel light, there would be more then enough room. The view from our window was great. We overlooked an almost countryside setting with a few houses, garden and a vineyard. Extremely quiet and peaceful. A good place if you want to get away from it all...

We ventured around the premises and went to check out the pool. We were really surprised how nice they kept everything. The entire area was landscaped beautifully. There was also a small restaurant where you could grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and a bite to eat and a banguet area where they held wedding receptions and banquets.

The one thing I liked the most about our stay was that you felt like part of the community not just a tourist...
