on a cruise

by JaneMiles

I will be spending one day in each of the following places in May:- Vigo, Malaga, Calvi, Livorno and Cannes. I also walk most of the places I visit. But would like to know in advance of where the most interesting places to visit are and what to see.

Hello. I myself will see Malaga this summer, so I guess the fortress and the green park near the sea are most interesting there.
In Cannes you can visit the Palais du Film and the croisette (palm-avenue of Cannes), the hill of Le Suquet with the church on (on the hill!), and from there you can easily take a bus to Antibes, to see the old Napoleonean fort Fort Carré and the old port Vaubon.
Near Antibes you could visit beautiful Cap d'Antibes,
a mesmerizing scenery with beaches and villas...
Calvi in Corsica is especially interesting since in the old town you find Napoleon's castle, a huge fort, and
the port in Calvi at night is especially charming! Calvi
also offers beautiful long sandbeaches you find hardly
any more at the French Riviera.
As for Livorno, I have not been there yet, unfortunately.
Nice greetings,
steve.

Travel Tips for Vigo

The Castle part 2

by maykal

Inside the castle proper are more gardens, filled with fountains and statues and bits of ancient ruin. There were many coach parties trooping through the gardens, taking quick photos before being whisked off to another vista. The rest of my family aslo passed by on their "Vigo Views" tour, although they didn't even have the chance to get out of the bus. If you happen to be on a cruise, and are tempted by a coach tour of Vigo, don't bother...most of the old town is pedestrian, the rest of the lanes too narrow and twisting for coaches, so the best of Vigo is ignored by these tours. Do it on foot...Vigo isn't that big, and it doesn't take long to climb up to the castle from the port.

Anyway, back to the castle. It isn't so impressive, but there are nice views of the city and over to Cangas on the opposite side of the bay. But it is free to enter the gardens and park.
