Hostal/Pension Landazuri: (Granada): Great location

by meganavery

This was a great place to stay. Location was great...steps away from the Gate of the Pomegranate which is the entry into the park that will lead you up to the Alhambra and steps away from the Plaza Nueva. Fantastic location, good room, helpful staff, parking spot available and a little cafe attached if you don't want to hunt for breakfast!

Found this hotel through another Virtual Tourist member (and then saw it in Rick Steve's Spain 2012) book and it did not disappoint

Roof top access and views were awesome

in general: Spanish Hotels

by NMguy2011

Spent 3 weeks in Spain, thought I could pack light and do laundry while there but there were no laundrymats to be found, not in Madrid or even in the smaller cities and towns.. i.e. Toledo, Granada,Sevilla, Salamanca,Burgos, San Sebastian, Barcelona, Valencia. If you travel for several weeks pack a small length of clothesline, clothing that can dry overnight, and also a washcloth as none are provided in any of the hotels. You can find convenient detergent in any local market (not really any large SUPERmarkets.. just small neighborhood markets. Do your laundry early in the evening and hang up to dry and hope it's dry by morning. Or you can pay the high prices of the hotel about 5 Euro per item for then to launder your clothing.

While at the market buy your own case of bottled water then just throw in your backpack a couple each day you go out sightseeing.

Hostal Arti I: Centrally located, great prices

by lcre0002

Stayed there for a couple of nights. Very reasonable pricing for basic accomodation with shared bathroom/toilet facilities. Only a few metres away from the subway. If you aren't after any bells and whistles, and only need a place where to have a nap at night, I couldn't think of any better alternative in the neighborhood.

Very reasonable price
Wifi included
Centrally located
Drinks/snacks vending machines with cheapest prices in town :)

Ciutat del Prat, El Prat Spain: Horrible Front Desk Staff

by okmouse45

The stay was fine but the front desk staff is the rudest I have ever encountered in any hotel, and I have stayed in many. Below is a copy of my letter explaining the circumstances and a copy of the hotel manager's response. In other words, good luck on expecting anything from them except to collect the amounts due at the time of departure.

Dear Sirs,
I would like this message directed to the Manager of your hotel. We stayed at your hotel for four nights checking out on Oct. 26th for a 10:00 am flight from Barcelona to the US. We paid our bill the night before--checking out early so we could expedite services at the reception desk and met the shuttle driver at 6:40 am for a 6:45 am appointment to the airport. The shuttle driver was very thorough and efficient. He took us along with another couple from Tennessee, all of us catching Delta 115 at 10:00 am destined for Atlanta, GA.

We had a really nice stay at the hotel and were very pleased with the room and the services. However, that is where our "good experience" ended. We have never had such rude and unexplicable behavior from front desk staff as we did at your hotel. We are very disappointed for the abrupt and completely uncalled for response from the young man at the front desk when we checked out.

We arrived at the airport within 20 minutes so it was shortly after 7:00 am when I discovered I had left my AT&T cell phone (Samsung - blue) on the bed in the hotel. I went to the Delta counter and they agreed to call the front desk for me. I asked the young man if he could send someone to get my phone and please give it to the next shuttle driver and I would meet him out front at the passenger drop to retrieve my phone. He abruptly said no he could not. He said if I wanted the phone I would have to take the shuttle back to the hotel, get the cardkey and go upstairs and retrieve the phone myself and then reschedule a trip back to the airport (or take a taxi). I then asked if he could note that I had left my phone and please have it mailed to me and charge the postage to the American Express credit card. He said no he could not. He said "We do not mail anything." So I had to decide to leave my phone since I could not risk missing my international flight.

His behavior or his words made no sense to us since a shuttle was arriving every 20-25 minutes and I had plenty of time to stand out front and meet the next shuttle to get my phone. If this is your company policy, I would be interested to know. If this was just an independent employee (highly unprofessional and bad representation of your hotel) making his own decisions to not be cooperative or helpful, I would like to know that as well.

It certainly tainted the good experience we had and we just simply didn't understand what would provoke such an irrational response from him. I hope that this is not your hotel policy and that he will be reprimanded and instructed/trained as to appropriate responses for hotel guests, especially when they have a problem or have a lost item. It was upsetting to lose the phone but his unwillingness to help made it even worse.

I have since disabled that phone and have gotten a new phone. I do intend to review your hotel with virtual tourtist, trip advisor, booking.com, and any other international hotel review service I can find. My final review will be determined by your response to this email.

I still an willing to have you mail the phone to me as a back up and I am willing to pay regular postal fees. If that is possible, please let me know and also inform me prior to the mailing as to the costs involved.

It is a shame that a nice facility associated with Salle Hotels has such a blight on their record because of an rude, obviously angry employee hopefully acting on his own and not on behalf of the hotel.

I look forward to a quick and appropriate response from your management.

Dear Hunsucker,

I asked the recepctionist in duty that day and this is the information he gave me.

When you called the hotel from the airport to informe that you has forgotten your mobile phone in your room the shuttle to the airport was allready letf so it was imposible to send it to you with that service, and the next service to the airport was one hour later. Or shutle service must cover both terminals (T1 and T2).So he proposed you to take a taxi back to the hotel to pick it up and you told him you had no time to come back. We are sorry for that, however our shuttle service, in the morning, depends on the guests going to the airport and at that moment is very busy to do other services.

For the sending of the phone he informed you that or hotel policy is that we d'ont take in charge the sending of any forgotten objects from our guests. The guest must contact a company like SEUR, UPS ect. and take care of it. We only keep the objects in the hotel until the company comes to pick it up. If nobody clams for the object the hotel will only keep it for one month.

Other way if you prefer, we can, excepcionally, contact a sending company and ask them for the price of sending you the phone. In that case we will need your adress and a credit card number authorisation so we can pay them for the service.

Yours sincerelly

Antonio Rodriguez

General Manager

The facilities are nothing special but they are clean and close the airport which is their only strong point in my opinion. Speaking of strong, they painted and/or varnished a room the last night of our stay and the fumes were so strong we tried to open our window (though cool) to get fresh air and had to close the interior door shutting off the bathroom area because of the strong odors.

Our other issues with the front desk/management are evident from the above emails.

Accommodation In Spain

by Sarahbro

Accommodation in Spain has been tremendous. There are 5.000 Hotels in Spain which have loads to propose and present. Hotels in Spain offer a Villa which has a private pool, a kitchen, lots of space, a private parking and is cheaper with a group of people; or an Apartment which has a kitchen, more than one bedroom and a bathroom. Family and friends can gather together and have a splendid time while on a holiday in Spain. Once you have set your budget, you can locate hotels in parts of the city of Granada or in the city in the province of Granada where you would like to visit. Granada has interesting monuments and natural environments to visits. Neighboring towns such as Almunecar, La Calahorra, Guadix, the Natural park of Huetor and the mountain town of Sierra Nevada are also rich cities of Spain. Spain surely is the most exotic holiday destination with an array of luxury villas, beach villas on Costa Del Sol and holiday apartments on Costa Blanca.

The most popular holidays in Spain are the "Beach holidays" , "City holidays” and the "Rural holidays “. While on a Beach Holiday, the most popular accommodation in Spain is a "Beach villa" and a "Beach apartment". On a City Holiday, you can search for a holiday apartment in the city centre of Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and other large Spanish cities. On a Rural Holiday, you can look for a holiday home in the mountains to enjoy nature at its best and the beauty of mountains, valleys and greenery very closely.

Enfocamp: Spanish summer camps in Spain

by Eve14

Hello

I don't know Enforex camps on my own, neither the ones from Don Quijote, but I've heard that both of them are very similar and well-organized. Some friends of my husband sent their children there, and I've never heard them complain about that decision. Their oldest son speaks spanish fluently now, so I guess it kind of worked out! They have some videos published on a youtube channel, you should just take a look and make your own opinion. Good luck with it!

Hotel Albero: Great little hotel in Granada

by MiteMsispe

The small Hotel Albero is quite easy to find when traveling by car and it is located less than a mile from the Alhambra. Albero is operated by a family which is very nice and helpful. We rented two single rooms for about $45 total per room per night- a very good price. It is rated a one star hotel ,which I normally would not have given a second thought, except for the exceptional reviews given to it by this site and other travel sites. Each room was very clean, newly and nicely appointed, and the bedding was comfortable enough. Breakfast is served by the female owner/manager and consists of delicious coffee/espresso, croissant, orange juice, and very good bread. This cost us $3.80 a piece.
The negative aspects of this hotel are that it does not appear to be within walking distance to many restaurants, but there are a couple within easy walking distance that serves sandwiches and other light fare. There are two bus lines that are just in front of the hotel that will take you to the central business district and the Albayzin district where there are many places to visit.
The only other aspect of the hotel that I did not like was the fact that the first room off of the lobby (102 which was my room)was intensely noisy until about 10pm or so. So much so that I was kept awake by what I presume was the night front desk clerk's loud snoring.
I would summarize Hotel Albero as a 1 star hotel that I would give a 2-2.5 star rating. I recommend it for those who like a quality bargain and do not mind driving or taking a bus to restaurants and attractions.

Outstanding qualities of this hotel are their personal attention to detail and general eagerness to please. The hotel appears to have been recently renovated and is comfortable.

Hotel CASA DEL CAPITEL NAZARÍ: Stunning Reinnassance palace hotel

by desertfl0wer

Built in 1503 this beautifully renovated hotel has retained its old world architecture and charm. It's immaculate, perfectly located (you can view the Alhambra from certain windows) and the service is friendly and will speak English (even if, like me, you try to speak Spanish). I brought my kids here one summer and they, too, loved sitting on the balcony over-looking the town and side streets. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you're tired of corporate hotel chains taking over all the small, privately owned gems still hidden among the side streets.

The hotel's best feature is its price and its architecture. It's very reasonably priced at roughly 69€ a night for a double room.

Other features include:
- 17 bedrooms with bathroom.
- Television and internet connection in all bedrooms.
- Exhibition gallery.
- Breakfast room.
- Living room.
- Concerted Parking
- Air Conditioning.

Molino del Santo, Benoajan: Best Hotel in Ronda, Andalucia area

by DreamingSpain

I have stayed with Andy and Pauline several times now. It is simply paradise. The rooms are spacious, well laid out, but more to the point have a homely feel that so many hotels just don't get near.

Children are 100% welcome at the hotel - in fact my own son has a gekko named after him that constitutes one of many that create a treasure hunt for the hotel's smaller clients.

The restaurant creates the best food imaginable at sensible prices, and eating out beside the river is utterly romantic to a fault.

I cannot think of a single feature of the Molino del Santo that does NOT come into this category. It has earned No.1 on Trip Advisor for VERY good reason.

Melia Alacante: Convenient Location, Poorly Managed and Not Relaxi

by davidspro

We checked into the Melia Alicante after 3 wonderful nights spent in Valencia at the Hotel Las Arenas Balneario Resort, a five star hotel which we would highly recommend. The Melia Alicante, which was rated four and a half stars, is conveniently located with easy access to beaches, harbor, casino and Santa Barbara Castle. There are great views from balconies on either side of building. We booked two rooms and one had a view of the harbor and the other, a view of the beach. HOWEVER, our overall experience was negative and we cannot recommend nor would we ever consider returning to this property.
Upon checking in, the rooms smelled of cigarette smoke. Air conditioning did not work and rooms were very warm, about 80 degrees. If you open the balcony door to cool off at night, there is a tremendous amount of noise from partying teenagers who hang out on and around the hotel property until 4am in the morning. So, your choice is to either sleep in an oven or try to cool off and hear the screams, shouts, banging on dumpsters and blasting car radios of the local intoxicated teens. In the morning, after our first night, I mentioned to the concierge that it seemed odd that the lobby of the hotel was air conditioned and comfortable for the hotel clerks, restaurant workers and management, but the rooms were terribly hot for the guests. Later in the day, the hotel sent a small bottle of Muscatel and some candy to our room. A minimal, but nice gesture.
On our second day, we decided to go with the flow and be proactive and keep the balcony doors open to allow the room to stay cooler. Later in the day, we noticed an infestation of small ants in our bathroom. We called the front desk and asked if they could spray the room while we were out for the evening. When we returned, about 4 hours later, the ants were still in the bathroom and had spread into the bedroom. No one had sprayed. I went to the front desk and the clerk offered to send someone up to spray or to give us a new room. Since it was 1am, we decided to move rooms, rather than have to inhale the pesticides, knowing we would need to keep the balcony door sealed to cut down on the street partying noise. The room we moved to had been closed up all day and the temperature in the room was over 80 degrees. We opened the balcony door to cool off and considered moving one of the mattresses onto the balcony, however at that point the partying was well underway, below our balcony. At one point we looked over our balcony and noticed teen age girls and boys, who were “fall-down” drunk, urinating amongst the dumpsters below our window. We soon realized that this was not an isolated event, and that this location was the public urinal for these teens. Groups of girls and boys continued in a non-stop stream (no pun intended) to stagger drunk from various directions to the dumpsters below the hotel balconies, to relieve themselves. At one point, a car, blasting loud music, pulled up below our window and several drunk teens got out and urinated below our window and then got back into their car and drove off. Knowing how insane this was, we actually videotaped the ants swarming in our first room and the endless public urination below our balcony.
In the morning, I went to my kids’ room, which was on the beach side of the building. My children are teenagers, and before I could say a word, they complained they were exhausted from all the partying noise on the beach, which prevented them from sleeping. I met again with the concierge, armed with the video of the ants in our room and the endless stream of visitors outside our balcony the previous night. I pointed out again that it seemed odd that it was so cool and comfortable in the lobby where she worked, yet her guest’s rooms were so hot, and opening the windows to cool the room down subjected her guests to the loud noises from the teens roaming the hotel grounds, and the smells from the public urinal below. She checked with her manager and agreed to deduct 30 Euro from our room charge. This was an extra person charge that was added to the room where my 3 children stayed, when we checked in. I thanked her, but indicated that I felt it more appropriate to comp us for at least one of the rooms. She said this was not possible and offered to “take care of us” on our next stay with them… and after some protest by me with the concierge and her manager, that’s pretty much where it ended.

Location is ideal and views are wonderful. Bugs, loud partying on hotel grounds and lack of air conditioning, make this a light sleeper's nightmare.
