Vastanviks Camping: Campsite on Lake Siljan
We stayed on this campsite in 2003 on our way from the Lofoten. It's situated at the other end of Lake Siljan from Nusnas close to Leksand but as I am not going to write a page on Leksand until I visit it again (if ever) I hope its inhabitants won't mind.
It's a big campsite on the lake and with quite a few amenities and lots of space for caravans and tents. It offers cabins of various sizes - ours was one of the smallest and oldest, a former fisherman's log hut with an extremely high threshold. It had a lot of character though even if it was cramped. And, although we had some problems with finding space for our luggage, we had two real beds, not a bunk bed, which was a great advantage. We paid very little for it by Swedish standards - only 150 SEK, but in the high season they charge as much as 270 SEK for this tiny cabin. Right beside ours was another, even smaller cabin for one, a rarity on campsites. The bathroom was just opposite our cabin and hot water was free, which we really appreciated. The reception staff were nice, helpful and spoke good English. We spent the long summer evening, and they are really long in Scandinavia, enjoying ourselves on the banks of the lake, watching the changing colours of the water as the sun set.
Unique Quality: Great location on Lake Siljan, good for fishing and bathing. Offering some cheap cabins (at least off season) including a single one, but you'd better book it in advance. The area looked interesting too even if we didn't have the time to explore it.

Vardshuset Moraklockan: Motel near Mora
We spent our first night ever in Scandinavia there. It was also the only time when we stayed at a motel. But, still inexperienced in looking for accommodation there and exhausted after a whole day's drive from our ferry at Nynashamn, all we wanted was a bed and a shower. And I can't say it was a bad choice, if rather expensive for roadside accommodation without breakfast (390 SEK). Still, our room had a separate entrance and was quite spacious and well-furnished, with a nice blue theme to it. The bathroom with a shower was ensuite. Unpacking was easy as the car could be parked right in front of our entrance. Unfortunately, our neighbours were reluctant to make any conversation, and I had so hoped to learn some Swedish! Even now, after our five trips to Scandinavia I still haven't gone far beyond 'Hey, hey' and 'Tack' and my 'Swedish for Beginners' has just been cluttering our shelves. No use learning a language if there is no one to talk to. And everything we needed could be arranged in English anyway.
There was hardly any noise from the traffic there, even though the road was in sight. There was a forest at the back but we couldn't find any paths to go for a walk.
Unique Quality: Conveniently situated, just by the road
