Cost of train ticket from Stockholm to Gävle City
by Jessica.frances
I was wondering how much a train ticket would set me back from Stockholm to Gävle City? I understand that buses are cheaper so it would be great if someone could enlighten me as to the cost of either!

Right now the cheapest fare one way Gävle-Stockholm is 244 SEK. Buses are less expensive but take longer. Of course, if you book well ahead you might find cheaper prices in both.
Train: SJ www.sj.se
Bus: Swebus Express www.swebusexpress.se

Hello,
I always use SGS-bussen (www.sgsbussen.nu). 130 Skr for single fare taking 2h 10min.
You will save 30 - 40 minutes by taking the train, but it usually cost quite a good deal more (if you cannot book well in advance).

The Gävle Goat
by Leipzig
The Goat is the maskot of Gävle. Its origin is a very funny story. In 1966 a local man had the idea of creating a giant Swedish Yule goat of straw. On December the first a 13-meter tall goat stood on the square. On New Year's Eve the goat was set on fire by a young man. He got arrested. In 1969 the same happend as well as in 1970. In the next two years the goat collapsed under its own weight. In the next years the goat was set on fire again, or collapsed or - and this was a rare event - it was left unmolested.
here you can read what happened in every single year so far

This is the ice hockey team from Gävle and they have played in the highest division for many years. Gävle has a strong ice hockey culture. Their old ice hockey stadium was called Gavlerinken, but they play now in Läkerol Arena. Nothing.
Mackmyra Swedish Whisky
by lisa.carlson
Mackmyra Swedish Whisky was established in 1999 as the first Scandinavian malt whisky distillery. The whisky is not yet for sale but will be a single malt, with a unique Nordic character. Mackmyra is the only distillery in Sweden, thus adding a new dimension to the national tradition of vodka and aqvavit. The distillery is situated 10 kilometres west of the city of Gävle and 200 kilometres north of Stockholm, which makes it the nothernmost distillery in the world.
Railways and rams
by Sjalen
G?vle to me is one of Sweden's hidden gems. I would not have been that familiar with it if it was not for the fact that my mum was born here and has her first happy memories from this place until granny had enough of the dark winters up here and asked granddad if it wasn't time for that career move home to south Sweden yet. It was, and so he had to leave his County office and the chairmanship of the local football club to someone else and move south for good, much to mums sadness.
Today, she has hardly gone back, whilst I instead seem to go there regularly. Not that I'm a train spotter but I DO love train journeys and G?vle is the home of the National Railway Museum. It is also home of the famous Christmas straw ram which people come all over the world to set fire to and to Gevalia coffee - quite trendy in New York these days I believe? The city smells of it on business days. Wake up and smell the coffee here you too!
