HamnHotellet: Great accomodation in visby
After not finding anything on the net, we finally had to book HamnHotellet in Visby and were not dissapointed. Although it is not in the old town, but, it took 5 mins walk to get there. Accomodation, was great. Good rooms and friendly staff. It is bang opposite the docking yard from where all the ferries leave so, we just had to cross the road to get to our ferry. It is a good walk from the old town with all the luggage.
Right opposite the ferrying docking yard, friendly staff, garden outside the ground floor room to chill and drink if you are interested.

Volontärgatan: Own apartment
We were staying for almost a full week in Visby, using it as our travel base, and then hotel bills were not an attractive thought so instead we rented an apartment via the Destination Gotland website when booking the ferry. The apartments are run by the company Gotlandsresor which also has other accommodation in the Visby area, so checking in is done at the Hamnhotellet hotel reception not far from the harbour before you can make your way to Volontärgatan. This is the only inconvenience though, and a small one since you will probably arrive and depart by ferry anyway. Checking in is after 15.00 and checking out before 12.00 as with most hotels. Towels and bedlinen is included in the rent as is final cleening but apart from that, you wash-up and so on as you would at home of course.
The apartments are student apartments for the rest of the year which means that you get one room with a kitchenette. This has a cooker, fridge, freezer, coffee perculator or kettle and basic washing-up things. There are also a couple of (small-ish) pots and pans and crockery for 3-4 persons depending on apartment. Some apartments can be joined if you are a big family. There is of course also a table area as well as comfy, if somewhat narrow, beds and a TV with quite a few international channels too. The bathrooms have showers. Volontärgatan is in a quiet area east of the city centre with a 10-15 minute walk to the Österport city gate along residential quarters by the Roma road. We were afraid it would feel like a long walk but we often biked home and even when we walked it was only a few blocks. There are also terraces or balkonies with each apartment so you can buy a cheap grill if the evening is nice. Along the street is a free parking lot. I think the only complaint I have is that you had to do your shopping in the city and for us without a car it meant carry it home as there was no supermarket in the immediate area, but this was a minor inconvenience and the Konsum supermarket at Östervägen is open until 21.00 all days.
We hardly used our terrace as we were out all day, but it looked nice the way our neighbours had a barbecue when we returned. Bicycle racks outside the window meant we always knew where our rental bikes were.

Sudersands Semesterby: Sudersands Semesterby Campground
This was the second best campground. It is near the beach and suitable for children. There is a shop, good washing facilities, pay showers and toilets. The beach is very nice.
The beach! The water is little bit cold but great swimming area!

Fidenäs Camping: Fidenäs Camping **
Fidenäs is just a Campground, it is a two star Campground. There are no electricity at the tents, but they have pay showers, enough toilets and a washing area for the dishes. But there is a lot of trees, and the campground is very clean.
Great sundowns over the lake!
