Go to the tourist office and let them point out following places:

1- 'Prins Bertils led' a hick by the sea
2- 'Grötvik' a small harbour by the sea.
3- 'Sandhamn' and 'Handikapp badet' a beutifull place by the sea. Perfect for a quick evening bath.
4- 'Tylösand' an 6 km long beach.
5- 'Tylöstad/Frösakull' a part of the beach whit less people and a lot of space for you.
6- 'Steninge' a little village outside Halmstad. Take a coffe at 'Göstas Café' and enjoy the view. The sea, the sand and the sun

Trotting races

Trotting is big in Sweden and Halmstad has one of the cosiest race courses in the country. Sadly, I have no picture of it despite my father even having a share in a horse here once, so you will have to make do with a picture from Axevalla instead. The racecourse has races once a week but also the occational V75 race which is the biggest type of racing meeting and which takes place somewhere in Sweden every Saturday. You can bet on winners or 1-3rd in each race and/or put together a V5 or more as part of a system of races. There is also a restaurant at the racecourse although there you should book to get a good table. Otherwise you won't starve as there are simple snack bars too. Trotting is not something posh in Sweden, on the contrary, and it is quite a family affair and seen as a day out even though men on their own of course dominate :))) Money :)

County Museum Halmstad

The Halmstad branch of the county museum of Halland is set in a great park along the river and was specially built in 1933 after a Ragnar Hjort drawing. It shows you a bit about Halland's history as you would expect. There are pictures and information from old Halmstad and notably a section on the Danish-Swedish wars raging here since Halland is an oblong county with just a short distance from Halmstad to the Swedish border in those days and the Swedes kept attacking. There is also a floor dedicated to local art, especially the Halmstad Group which introduced surrealism to Sweden, and I even found a painting by my mum's old colleague's famous father :))). If you want to see much more of them, you should head to the tiny village of Mjällby to the north where there is a museum about the group.

"Cosy and quiet place near the sea"

Vilshärad is a small (very small) village 10 k´s north of Halmstad. The coastline and beach at Vilshärad os very nice and there is also great woods to run/walk in. At one place you can walk to the top of north europes highest sandhill and from there you have a wonderful view of to closeby villages.

"Place to stay"

My parents has a separat house that they let you rent for weeks or weeknds. Give them a ring at +46 35 591 24 if you need a place to stay. The cottage is by a small road, close to the woods and about 1 k to the beach. The house has everything you need, small kitchen, bathroom with toilet and shower, etc.
