OK, we got to check in quite late as the room was not ready due to late checkers out and a fully booked hotel, but otherwise it really was perfect. First of all, look at the setting next to Norre Port city gate. You exit the hotel and there is Halmstad for you with all its shops and restaurants. Secondly, it has its own pub and restaurant in the form of the Fox & Anchor (see separate tip) which is one of the best beer and whisky places in town. Our room had a comfy bed and was not too cold or too hot. It had a TV with all major Swedish channels and a couple of English ones. There are no mini bars on the rooms anymore but you can easily buy all that should be in one (and more) in the reception. The bathroom was spacious for being a European hotel and everything was clean. I was also surprised to find the room quiet at night despite the pub outside. There is a sauna open in the afternoons and evenings. Breakfast is in the huge winter gardens and the daughter lacked plain cornflakes amongst all the cereals whilst I found some other things a bit bland but then again I compare everything to German hotel breakfasts which are simply unbeatable! :) The breakfast was fine. If you want to, they can make you a sandwhich pack to bring to the beach. There has been a hotel here since the mid 19th century and long may it continue to be so.
