Norre Katt Park
by Sjalen
The Norre Katt Park just behind the Norre Port gate, along the river, is a great place to spend an hour strolling amongst the ducks and just soaking up the remaining atmosphere of what was once a fantastic park with a sort of bowling alley and a gorgeous wooden restaurant where the whole town seems to have met in its heydays but which was sadly demolished in the 1960s. Today, coffee drinking and people watching at the cafe in the old Pavilion Cafe on a sunny day is the nicest thing to do. Sometimes there is live music here too even if it is not the brass bands of the band stand days but more modern.
Golf
by Sjalen
Halmstad is perhaps THE golf city in Sweden with more than ten courses within its municipality borders. Tylösand is the most famous one and very scenic - a course so good it gets to host the Solheim Cup and such. This is why I have linked to that one below, and as you can see it also has information in English. I have also linked to Halmstad tourist office's golf page which can keep you updated on what alternatives there are.
The picture here is of something quite unusual in Sweden, Adventure Golf - a mix between the two golf types. This can also be found in Tylösand. Not quite the Real McCoy but great family entertainment.
Europa and the bull

In Portugal we use to say that "one image speaks more than 1000 words". Having that in mind, and more than 1000 pictures to post, I decided to change my behaviour, posting the pictures as soon as they are ready, and adding the comments later.
Don't get mad on me - I'm glad to share my pictures with you, and the comments will be added soon.
Half timbered houses
by Sjalen
There are several half timbered houses in Halmstad, even if many of the really old ones have been lost in the 19th century city fire. I have not got photos of them all which is why I have bundled them together into one tip for now but you should try to see as many as you can as Halmstad is the northernmost town in Europe with a visible half timbered architecture still left rather than just the odd house. After the 1619 fire, many houses were rebuilt as the impressive half-timbered houses you can now see, such as:
Kirsten Munk's House (Storgatan 32)
Mellgrenska Huset (Klammerdamsgatan 20)
Brooktorpsgården (Kyrkogatan)
Halmstad, the city of music!
by chantie
It has been told to me that in the 70ties, Halmstad was the musical capital of Sweden. For me, the first reason to go there was the fact that one of my idols is born there: Per Gessle of Roxette. Next year I want to plan a trip to check out Halmstad again and the small cities around it, all by train.
