Checking out the feast
Some friends of ours are driving to Sweden for a holiday near Varberg. They are staying at a holiday village near a lake. They have found a lot of visitor information but it is all in Swedish! Can anyone tell me what there is to see and do with 4 young boys - ages 2 - 8? They were hoping to go to the Pippi Longstocking park but it looks like it is quite a distance away.
Are there nice beaches fairly close? Or perhaps a folk park? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Astrid Lindgren's World is in Vimmerby which is more than a daytrip but in a great part of Sweden :-) Varberg is nice too though as I'm sure Dave will tell you. Great sandy beaches, famous fortress and oh, Dave, don't forget Ullared! Sweden's mecca for bargain clothes shopping.
Did they find a good deal or how come Varberg?
Another thing is that Gothenburg is not at all far away and there they can take the kids to Liseberg amusement park which is a gorgeous fun park!
im from varberg as well, or have lived there the last 10 yrs... varberg is a lovely little town.. there is a park for kids a few km away, cant remember the name but i think its good for kids.
well im sure dave has told u alot of good things about our little town and has also recommended the tourist info... have a nice time... i miss home at the moment and would love to be there....

THanks for the response Linda. And yes, Charlotta, our friends have been to Varberg and back! They loved it - where they stayed was great for their wee boys and the whole family had a great time.
They even went to the Pippi Longstocking park even though it was a long drive. They said they were glad they did because they all really enjoyed.
Great! Yes it is a long drive. I lived in Gothenburg and used to live on the opposite coast, near the Longstocking park so I know the road very well :)
The Town of Varberg is quite small, there are 53000 inhabitants in the municipality, and 26000 in the town. It's mostly know as the "Town of Bicycles" and has an important harbor. Daily ferries to Denmark, and Cargo Services to The Netherlands, Iceland, England, Ireland, The Mediterranean and the Baltic States. A great map over Varberg is shared at:

There are lots of beaches around Varberg, as Apelviken, Jetterön, Träslövsläge and Kärradal etc.. But the best and unpoiled parts are at the many cliffs that surrounds the beaches. They are hard but they are beautiful. I strongly recommend you finding your own "Cliff" Be aware that nudists often takes a swim around the cliffs, there are also some special Nudist Baths around here. Don't stare too long! :-)
There are lots of daily boat trips out to Fladen and Middelgrund, I can strongly recommend it! Even if you're not an angler, It's fun and great to spend a day out at sea. There are fishing gears for rent and food on the boat. You don't have to book in advance. The Prices is from 200SEK to 600SEK per day, depending how long time you want to be out. From 4-8 hours.

Don't we all like it? Well in Varberg everyone eat it, it's famous for its many Ice Cream cabbins and you can pretty much find them everywhere. Some of the finest and most cosy is located at the small harbor at the city centre.
At The costal line around Varberg there are plenty of different species of birds. Eveywhere you go there are colourful birds above your gray hat. But watch out, you might end up with a white hat if walking around all day!
