Varberg Vandrarhem: Fancy a night in prison?
We came there in the morning and were going to cross the Oresund Bridge to Denmark on the same day so didn't have the chance to spend a night there. Perhaps just as well as sleeping in a prison cell, no matter how clean, has never been my dream. Especially in one where those sentenced to life imprisonment had been kept, which is the case here. But it might have been interesting to see cell 24 with all its original features preserved or look out of the window of cell 13, the only one that has a full-sized window facing the sea. Never mind that it is barred. The hostel is very popular with tourists, so it is better to make a reservation in the high season.
Unique Quality: It may be your only chance to spend a night in a prison!

Silverlyckans Camping: Campsite near Varberg
Not a bad place to stay the night: a nice green area, some cabins of various standard, a few places for campers. Shared coin-operated shower and toilets, all perfectly clean. Quite expensive: for a tiny cabin with wide and comfortable but bunker beds 350 SEK per night.
Would have been acceptable if we could use the verandah, but it was raining and the plastic table and chairs there were all wet. But the beds were comfortable and we had a good night's sleep in the silence of the Swedish countryside.
Unique Quality: Cheaper than the other accommodations in the area. A motel nearby charges 450 SEK per night for a tiny cubicle with shared facilities. On the campsite we at least had a cooker.
Good country location, ensuring peace and quiet.

Youth Hostels and Camping: Accomodations
There are lots of popular campgrounds in Varberg, Apelviken is the largest and finest. If camping, I suggest here.
I great alternative for non-campers is the cosy Youth Hostel located at the Fortress (Only open during the summer)
