Tent spot close to the Kebnekaise Mountain Range: At the bridge over the Laddjujohka
Of course you can always stay at the Mountain Station at Kebnekaise. You can either camp here or rent a room. At the Kebnekaise Mountain Station you can find all you can wish for: a shop, groceries, restaurant, have a coffee on the terrace, sauna, rent hiking gear and even log on to the internet. But all this of course comes with a price, as you certainly won't be alone here! Kebnekaise Mountain Station has a capacity of 190 beds + campground; which is a bit too much for my liking.
If you want to have a bit more peace and quiet and you have a tent with you, there are plenty of options to put up your tent between the boat landing and Kebnekaise. We opted to stay at the bridge over the river Laddjujohka, which is approx. 2 kilometres from the Kebnekaise Mountain Station and at the crossing of the hiking trails to Kebnekaise and Tarfula. On the plus side of this spot are the nice views towards the Kebnekaise Mountain Range, lots of space to put up your tent and amazingly, there are even toilets available at this spot (a great advantage when it rains at night, which it obviously did that day). The disadvantage is that the river is rather far below, so getting water is a bit of a hassle. It is a nice place to camp, although not the most picturesque you can imagine in the Fjällen (where there are so many amazingly beautiful places to put up your tent).
When hiking from Nikkaluokta to Kebnekaise you will find quite a few okay places to put up your tent from approx. 3-4 km's before getting to Kebnekaise onward (if you get too close to the Kebnekaise Mountain Station you are considered camping on their site and you'll have to pay their daily fee). The disadvantage on many of the suitable camping spots however is that the river is rather far below, so it is a bit of a bother to reach. If you are heading in the direction to Tarfala I can strongly recommend following this trail for approximately 1 - 2 kilometres where you can find some really nice spots along the bank of the river (see for more details on my Tarfala page).
