Kiruna overall view
Dear All,
Is October the appropriate time to visit Kiruna in order to observe the aurora? Coz we will be in Europe in Early Oct and planning whether we should visit Sweden. Thank you for your reply~~~
Hi, Northern Lights are visible from October to March. However, it's important that you pick a night when there is no moon, and no clouds!!
You can check online for the moon phases.
Get away from city lights (light pollution) to see the Borealis.
Yes indeed October could be fine. If you want to stand a really good chance, head for Abisko Mountain station (by train from Kiruna) since they have fewer clouds usually (due to being close to the sea over in Norway and all the rain from there rains on the Norwegian mountains). They have their own Aurora mountain observatory too on the Mount Nuolja and I think they are open still in October (they only close later up until Christmas and then again after New Year until daylight comes back).
I was only short time here in Kiruna. It is a mining city that has nothing really special to offer as a city, but the surrounding and the nature around is amazing, so you can use Kiruna as your base for supply and other city needs that you might have.

To spot the midnightsun Is on top of that peak, Luosavaara.
The arrange bus trips up to the top. But don't take that! Walk, you'll need some exercise! :-)
I hope you'll get at least one Sunny day if you go here! To see the nidnightsun is only once in a lifetime for many!
This is a picture of the U-2. It is officially not a U-2 but an E-2. (I think that was the nomenclature) It is a giant glider with big engines. It lands on one wheel like a glider. Most of the missions last for 8 hours. The pilot wears a space suit.
It is almost impossible to get this close to this aircraft when it is in the US. It is based at Edwards Airforce Base in California.
Well I can't say that I think is guy was wierd.
But it's a little odd to see a sign that says: "I live here" (Här Bor Jag) in the middle of nowhere, 40 km without a single house on the road to Esrange.
Well....I guess I'm not the only one who has taken a picture of that sign....
