Friendly and good value Hostel

Yellow House is a simple hostel in Kiruna, in an old traditional wood yellow house. It's located in a peaceful residential street, very close to the city centre.

The common areas are well clean and furbished, and the rooms are simple but nice and comfortable. Sheets and towels are not included in price, but you can rent them.

The interact with staff is minimal, you only see them at chack-in, they give you a key to all facilities.

Unique Quality: All the rooms have their own TV and a simple but useful radio-clock (my room had 2). The breakfast has plenty of variety and quantity. The house is beautiful and typical.

Central Location

This place is cited as an Hostel. I would classify it as a B&B with bells on it.

You can book a flexible set of accomodation here depending on needs ranging from single traveller through to small groups.

Key points of note:

Nice shared lounge with Cool widescreen TV & audio facilities.

Rooms, although basic, are good value. Each room has a good TV.

There are shared areas for cooking / dining for self catering.

Self Service breakfast is recommended - $7 / £5 a day.

They offer sheet & towel service at a flat rate of $7 / £5 per stay.

Clothes washing is a steal at $2 / £1 per wash - including drying.

Reception open 14.00hrs - closes 24.00hrs.

Unique Quality: Quiet & efficient. Owner helpful.

Kiruna's best hostel

We stayed in this hostel during our stay in Kiruna (in the Arctic) and I would recommend it to any other traveller going up there. We went in December and there was loads of snow but the place was warm and it had a sauna in the basement of the attached house which was available for guests. I wouldn't describe it as a hostel in Irish terms, it was more of a guesthouse standard with proper beds, not bunkbeds and tvs in the room. We had a twin room and it was spacious and comfortable. I'd recommend it to anyone

Unique Quality: It has a sauna, very clean and comfortable. No more than a five minute walk to the centre of town, and it's easy to find. Ask any taxi driver to bring you there from the airport. Hot showers and very well equipped kitchen. Another benefit is that there is no lock-out/curfew.

A youth hostel

We stayed at the Yellow House. Most of the rooms are for 2-4 people, and the rooms look nice (you have to bring your own sheets or sleeping bag). The kitchen is small though. And the showers are terrible (they smell bad, steam up too much, and there was a huge hairball in the drain). But aside from that, I didn't hate it. We only stayed a weekend, so it was no big deal.

Unique Quality: The rooms were nice, and the place in general was comfortable (except the showers!). To get from one section of the building to another, you have to go outside, but it's no big deal since you don't have to be outside for long.

A: "I don't think there is direct bus connection. Maybe you can get a bus to Haparanda-Tornio (via Boden or Lulå) and from there to Pello."
