Mountain Hut at Unna Allakas: Sheltering from the rain in cosy Allakas
After a difficult hike over a mountain pass in stormy weather we arrived at Unna Allakas. I was so happy to see this place! It meant warmth, relaxing and some nice food. But it was much more than only that.
As it was raining outside we decided to stay at the Mountain Hut this time instead of putting up our own tent. We both liked it here; it just felt 'right'. It is hard to put that feeling into words. The wilderness surrounding the Mountain Hut (which is much more remote than the previous lodges we stayed at) was breathtaking in its own way. Just sitting here looking outside the window was so relaxing and wonderful. So we decided to make it a resting day the next day, enjoying the quietness and wilderness of this area one more day. And escaping the rain as well, hahaha, as it rained for a second day in a row. If I go back to this area, I think I would try to stay here again.
Unique Quality:
The Unique qualities of Unna Allakas..... mmmm, so difficult to describe. I can tell you what it doesn't have! Hahahaha, that is the easy part :-) There is no running water, flush toilets or electricity. The facilities are basic, basic, basic. But there is a little store! It has only a small selection of foods. But that feels like heaven when the 'food section' in your backpack starts to reduce quickly. Needless to say we bought some food here.
Unique is its cosiness, friendliness and the helpfulness of the stugvärd (the one that runs the mountain hut). Unique is also its surrounding landscape that is rough with lakes, rivers, rocks and reindeers in the vicinity. The feeling of being away from the 'busy world' outside. This is a totally different life, it's quiet, it's calm, a place to order your thoughts and your mind. A place to relax in a unique way that most people have forgotten about.
Hahaha, I feel like I am rambling on here, maybe you understand how I felt here. You probably will if you've been here. Unna Allakas is a place to remember. Not because of its highlights, but because of that 'special feeling' it has.
Staying at the Mountain Hut will cost you 190 SEK per person per night (about 24 USD or 20 Euro). Camping is of course also possible (60 SEK per person per day). Day service: Cost for using the kitchen but not staying overnight 40 SEK per person.
