Currency change information at Linkoping Airport

by sanday5india2010

I am traveling directly to Linkoping Airport via Amsterdam. I am carrying euro as cash, but not Kronas. One of my friends have told me that there is no money exchange in the Airport premises.
Then should I try to encash at the Amsterdam Airport or Taxis in linkoping accept euros/credit cards?

Please assist......

There should be ATM somewhere were you should be able to withdraw local currency if you have credit card. Euro is not officially accepted in Sweden so taxi driver might not accept it or he will charge you higher rate for the already ripped off taxi fare.

Most taxi companies accept credit cards here, so no problems there. However, I'd exchange some Swedish money in Amsterdam if the rate was good (just in case).

Travel Tips for Linköping

Göta kanal

by AnnikaW

Outside Linköping is Göta Kanal, (which is most famous for being the place where a popular swedish movie was made :)

It's very beautiful in summer (this photo is taken in spring, so it is not as green as it usually is) and a great place to go swimming.

Rök

by Marpessa

Rökstenen (The Smoke Stone) is a rune stone that stands at 2.5m tall above the earth, with another 1.5m below it. It has the most amount of letters found on it than any other rune stone in the world.

It is believed that the stone was created (carved) as early as 800 A.D. The place where it lies now is not where it was originally from (rune stones were usually found at crossroads - although I am aware that where it stands now, might have been a crossroad 1,200 years ago :) ). This one was moved to its current place in the 1930s, although I am not completely sure where it stood before, it was still somewhere in Rök.

The text on the stone is written in Old Norse (some letters are similar to the Latin alphabet) by a man named Varin in memory of his dead son Vämod. I was given a modern translation of the rune stone and it is quite a riddle to read (if you would like a translation please ask and I will email it to you).

Just near the stone where the car park is, there is also a little 'exhibition' (story boards) on the rune stone. Majority of it is in Swedish though and a couple of panels in English as well. But you will probably get the idea of what it is saying anyway.

(Sorry the photos are not so good, they were taken on my mobile phone)

Address: Rök

Directions: Found west of Linköping - about a 40min drive, if you turn off the E4 at Väderstad and then go towards Heda, Rök is just before you get to Heda (The stone lies in front of the church, opposite the school).

Canal trips

by Sjalen

Both the famous Göta Canal and the smaller but very nice Kinda Canal run through Linköping municipality - Kinda even through the city itself. Linköping therefore has more locks than anywhere in the country, and if you want to see them, head for Tannefors in the city to see the triple lock at Kinda Canal, or head to the village of Berg outside the city to see one of the most famous Göta Canal locks. You can also go on various boat trips on both canals - ask for current ships at the tourist office. Although Göta Canal is the more famous one, Kinda Canal runs through more forested countryside and several lakes, and is also the canal with the deepest locks in the country.

Cathedral's pulpit

by Diana75

The pulpit is definitely one of the cathedral's most beautiful ornaments.

The blue colored wooden pulpit is decorated with golden angels and particularly beautiful is the golden sun on the pulpit's upper side.

Linkoping – a city around a cathedral

by Diana75

Center of Swedish high technology and software industry, housing today the headquarters of the famous airplanes producer SAAB, Linkoping didn't lose its charm of old provincial town.

With the most impressive and expensive Swedish church of the Middle Ages and also one of the biggest in the northern part of Europe, the Linkoping Cathedral, the Ostergotland Region Museum and the beautiful town square, Linkoping is attracting many tourists every year.

And who will say no to more than 800 years of religious and cultural evidences.
