The beaches near Bastad,...

The beaches near Bastad, Sweden. Now Bastad is famous, especially for tennis, but if you drive out of town a bit, stop along the sea, pack a picnic & just enjoy the nature & beauty of Sweden while you watch a man fishing or a sailboat out on the water.

Accomodations near Bastad Sweden for July 2011

by MackenieG

We will be in the Bastad area at the end of June, beginning of July. It will be very busy with the tennis tournaments. Can anyone recommend ideas where to stay relatively close to Bastad and close to the beach. We prefer small properties such as small hotels, pensions, guest houses. Thank you!!

Will you be driving or rely on public transport? South of Båstad is the slightly bigger town of Ängelholm (see my page) which has a very nice beach. Between Ängelholm and Båstad, the Bjäre Peninsula protrudes into the sea towards Denmark and this is a scenic peninsula based on a ridge so you have lots of summer houses here, especially in Mellbystrand and similar areas on its southern side, and out to the famous village of Torekov at its end (again, see page). Torekov itself is probably quite crowded too during the tennis weeks since a lot of stockholmers have summer houses there, but as I said, closer to Ängelholm there should be alternatives. Check the town's tourist office side for cottage rentals and such: http://www.turist.engelholm.se/en/Default_en.aspx

Have you had a look at the tourist information already? If not have a look at this link http://www.bastad.com/category/show/1_boende
Public transportation on the Bjäre peninsula is quite limited, so if you're not staying in the centre of Båstad you might want to consider renting a car or at least a bike.
Hemmeslövs Herrgård is within a nice bikerides distance. All the hotels etc are small, the only exception is Skansen which is nice but during the 'tennis week' it's expensive, crowded and overrated.

I worked at the touris office for a summer so go ahead and sent me a PM if you have more questions that you think I can answer.

Travel Tips for Båstad

Tennis, tennis, tennis

by Sjalen

Swedish Open takes place every July when Båstad is suddenly filled with international tennis stars and their fans. Book your accommodation well in advance if you intend to visit during this time and the weeks around it. There are also other tennis tournaments here such as the Kalle Anka (Donald Duck) Cup for promising youth players. Almost all famous Swedish tennis stars have won it :)

For a week in July every year you can see the tennis elite fight for first place in the Swedish Open. You can never really rely to much on the Swedish weather. Some years it's clear blue skies, others it rains alot. Games are re -scheduled when it's too bad.... a rainproof jacket or umbrella is a good backup unless it's bright sunshine and 30 C.

Horses

by Sjalen

As with the rest of Scania, this is an equestrian landscape and you can go riding (with or without included picnic) in the countryside from several villages. In the hills above Kattvik, an Irishman has his trekking centre which is one of the most famous but there are also Icelandic horses. Ask the local tourist office for an up to date list of stables. You can usually borrow hats, just bring good footwear and comfy trousers.

Swimming

by Sjalen

The whole peninsula has plenty of beaches even if they don't belong to the longest in Scania. Båstad itself has a beach as does Torekov and the southern coast of Bjäre is full of a mix of beaches and nature reserves.
