A room at Gislovs lage
We stayed at the place for two nights doing sightseeing in the area while we were waiting for the ferry back home from Ystad. The hosts rent out 2 rooms in the basement with a kitchen, shower and toilet to be shared. The place was quite comfortable and cosy, and we spent the first evening talking in the kitchen to a couple of teachers from Germany on their honeymoon in Sweden. The second night we had the kitchen and all the other facilities to ourselves.
There was a garden in front of the house with a table and chairs where you could laze in the sun. We, however, preferred to go sightseeing and visited the 'Viking' village at Foteviken, Ystad, the standing stones circle at Kaseberga and the marina at Gislovslage. Another thing we could have seen was the 'Viking Fortress' at Trelleborg but we had no more time left.
As soon as we left our luggage at the new place, we wanted to go shopping for food. We got into the car thinking we would have to go back to Trelleborg. We couldn't help laughing when we saw a small supermarket just round the corner about 50 metres away from the house and it was still open at 7 pm.
The hosts provided bed linen and there were many kitchen utensils you could use, so we could cook dinner. The only disadvantage for me was that the room had only tiny windows near the ceiling so it was rather stuffy inside. But at last I could take a decent shower and wash my hair - I needed it badly after our long drive from Norway that day and two or three successive stays on campsites with very limited facilities.
Unfortunately, I don't have the phone number of our hosts as we didn't pre-book but just arrived there.
The place is not suitable for wheelchair users as the entrance is accessed by quite steep steps.
Unique Quality: Separate entrance, closeness to the marina at Gislovs lage, good facilities, convenient for sightseeing in the area.

Cabins to let: Socialise with the Vikings
To get to know the Vikings better and take part in their activities, it may be worthwhile to stay in their village for a few days. To do that, you can either rent a tent from them, wear their clothes and be one of them or, to begin with, stay in one of their cabins to let. As we had already found accommodation in the area, we just had a look but didn't stay.
