How come you've selected Kristianstad??? Not that it is not nice, it is just unusual as people's first destination. Will you base yourself there for long or travel around a lot.

Bus is the cheapest way to travel in Sweden but which bus depends on where you want to go as there are long-distance coaches and regional buses. Train is cheap if you book far in advance or are a student or have children.

How are you getting to Sweden? Flying to Copenhagen? Malmö? Ferry from Poland?

B&B isn't that common in Sweden (esp. outside the big cities) but youth hostels are usually of a very high standard and open to everyone. Sometimes with single rooms, WC etc. You can find the touring club's hostels under: www.stfturist.se and the independently organised at: www.svif.se

Depends on if you're driving or not. If by train, have a look at www.bahn.de to show you the way. If driving from Plovdiv...hm...ferry from Poland perhaps indeed. If flying, Kristianstad is easy to reach from Copenhagen airport by direct trains but there are also budget flights with Wizz Air from Budapest to Malmö if that helps.

The area south of Kristianstad has some lovely countryside. You can read more on my pages for Simrishamn and Kivik. North of Kristianstad it gets more typically Swedish with forests. There you have a lake with an island full of fossils (Ivö) since the Kristianstad plain used to be seabed.

You are also not too far from Karlskrona which is a naval World Heritage site with a very typical Swedish archipelago with hundreds of islands. There is a nice hostel on one of them (Tjurkö).
