This Hostel IS an out-of-service train. It is parked on a blind track about 200m from Lund train station and it is just 5 minutes away from the cathedral and other sites of interest in the town.
It is formed by six carriages and a luggage wagon.
It is a nice place to stay and to be in touch with lots of different people...
the youth hostel in lund is in an old train and you sleep in compartments and have your breakfast in the old dining car.
the hostel is an attraction in itself and i would go back to lund just to stay there again.
the compartments are of course small as it's an old train, but the atmosphere is really nice there and you have a little green area outside too with tables and charis.
this place really has a cool vibe in my opinion.
A hostel only 200 metres from the railway station in central Lund. It is run by the Swedish Touring Association which usually means good quality (I have never stopped here since I live in nearby Malmö) even if it varies. You stay in these carriages and in the background you can see the main building with kitchen, lounge and so on. If you arrive in late August you need to book in advance as that's when university terms start again and Lund is packed with students from all over the World looking for accommodation.
You stay in railway cars so it works exactly the same as a sleeper but stationary. If you are two, you get a double compartment for instance. There are separate cars for loo/showers and games area.
There is an interesting youth hostel close to the train station which is located in train wagons. Try to get a reservation especially in the summer. There are kitchen facilities and a grill in the garden. You can rent a bike there for a ride across the city.
Why didn't anyone think of this before? It was surreal to live in an old train parked on a blind track next to the central station. The staff was very helpful and It was all very intimate (maybe too much soo. I wouldn't recommend long stays)
It had a larger room with table-tennis and a guest fridge (but for 50 kroner extra you could have breakfast between 7 and 9 am).
This hostel is located just at the railway station, and you sleep in an old train. Its pros is that it is cheep, centrally located and a beautiful train (at least from the outside). On the other hand it is acctually not very comfortable. The kupes (rooms) are very small, you hardly have anywhere to sit or even very much space for luggage (there is some space, though). And the beds are not so comfortalbe (a bit hard and of course not so big). We stayed there in the summer, and then it was in addition very hot, though that may have applied not only to this hostel!
