seemed pretty expensive when we were there nearly 3yrs ago

as with any touristy type place if you can find where the locals go - you may find cheaper prices

The bottel shops (systembolaget)are the cheepest between 10-20kr. They have a lot to choose from. Up to 3.5% can be brought in the supermarkets. There are a few pups mostly english or irish they have Happy hour from about 5 or 6 pm. Lots of outdoor sitting places serving beer but here you are looking at about 60kr a glass. Do as the swedes do. Go to the bottle shop and drink at home before you go out.

Travel Tips for Malmö

Money in Sweden

by Ewingjr98

Sweden, like Denmark and the UK, is part of the EU, but has not yet accepted the Euro as its form of currency. Therefore, when in Sweden, you will use the Kronor.

Like the rest of Western Europe, ATMs are plentiful and you can always use your American credit card at restaurants and shops.

Great bridge

by Igraine

On both times i have enjoyed my dinner at the Lila torget very much. Very friendly, relaxed end off summer atmosphere. We sat there all evening due to the ever so warm heating. Wonderfull invention.

There are some nice shops too at Lila Torget. One lovely jewelryshop. I could have bought the whole shop. I was in Malmö two times, at the beginning of my holliday and at the end, since we crossed the öresund brigde to cross the ...öresund.

History of Malmö in 2 minutes

by csordila

Malmö Sweden's third largest city is connected with Copenhagen by the Øresundsbron combined road and rail bridge since 2000.
The city was founded by the archbishop of Lund in 1275, when this area belonged to Denmark. In the XV. century Malmö was one of the largest cities of Denmark and the Öresund region thanks to its rapid growth.
Copenhagen was only a modest port town at the time, although by construction of a fortress in 1167, the city started to go on the road that leads to the situation being the Danish capital.
Malmö together with Skane, became a part of Sweden in the Roskilde peace in 1658.

Despite the newly started developments, novadays, the city is still a pale shadow of its glorious past; and both architecturally and culturally has been lagging far behind the former rival Copenhagen.

Bulltoftaparken

by diocletianvs

Bulltoftaparken is large recreational area in western outskirts of Malmö, designed in early 1980s in the area of former Malmö’s Bulltofta airport. The size of the park is 75 hectares, and it is a green oasis surrounded by Malmö’s residential suburbs, some light industry and big shopping centres.
The park is divided into three zones: Natural zone with natural biotopes, arboretum-like Park zone and Sports & recreational zone. It features lakes and meadows, natural woods areas and is well connected with pedestrian trails and running paths.
The park received Swedish landscape architecture prize.

Bulltoftaparken can be reached from Inre Ringvägen ring road (turn to Sallerupsvägen) or take bus no. 22 (direction Svågertorp) or 12E (direction Riseberga), 12C (direction Kvarnby) from the centre.

Malmö Festival

by Sjalen

Takes place during the second or third week in August every year and means the city is full of people enjoying concerts, crayfish, world food, street life and childrens event in a mix. OK, it's not Edinburgh by any means but the main stages in the squares have at least one really famous Swedish artist on every evening and then there is folk music from all over the world, a jazz tent, not so well known international films, childrens theatre and other activities in a park, dragon boats and other canal activities and loads of food stalls. Personally, I think the food stalls are overrated since there is just as good international food in Malmö in its permanent restaurants any day of the year, and there is too little seating in the squares. I prefer to enjoy some good music and the little known side events and the highlight so far was when I got to see Lloyd Cole for free since the whole festival is paid for by Malmö city council. Check the link below for the day to day programme once it's settled every year.
