from Arlanda airport to city center

by mindcrime

Is there any cheap way to go from Arlanda to the city center without using the express train and bus?
Is there any local bus?
What is the number of the bus?
Is it far from the terminal?

To go from Arlanda to the city center the local way:

- Take bus 583 to Märsta station (it stops outside terminals 2, 4 and 5)
- Get off at the end of journey and then take the commuter train in Märsta station towards Södertälje C. Get off then at Stockholm's central.

Estimated travel time: about 1 hour including the transfer between bus and train. Cost: 80 SEK (about 8 euros) for an adult, single ticket.

Note that you cannot buy the tickets on the bus, but you can buy it at Pressbyrån or the information center on the arrivals hall on terminal 5.

I only recommend this if you don't have heavy/a lot of luggage. I don't know if they sell remsa but you could ask for it. A remsa is 16-coupon strip that you can use until you run out of strips and it costs 180 SEK (about 18 euros).

The 3-day cards work in everything that has to do with SL too =) I *think* you can buy them at the airport but I'm not sure (because I have a monthly card).

Travel Tips for Stockholm

Gamla stan, the old town !...

by Tomtom-Paris

This is the oldest part of Stockholm. You have to walk in this small island. You can visit a lot of museums, eat a typical food in a cellar restaurants and of course you can drink something.
The principals streets are Österlånggatan, Stora Nygatan, Västerlanggatan and the square Stortorget but if you want to discover Gamla Stan walk aimlessly in the small streets.
You can also visit the Royal Palace and the cathedral of Sweden (Storkyrkan)
You can see more photos in my travelogue 'Gamla Stan'

My favourite houses

by Sjalen

Could someone give me an apartment there?! On the other hand, it is nicer to look at them from the outside. You can do that by walking along Barnhusviken, between the Central station area and Kungsholmen island.

Easter Eggs filled with Chocolate

by agustath

In Sweden it is a custom during Easter to fill colourful paper Easter eggs with chocolate and give to your children and loved ones. Since we were travelling in Stockholm around Easter the shops were filled with those eggs and you could even choose your own filling with a selection of chocolate and other yummy things!
Then you can use the Easter egg next year or return it to the giver, hoping he or she will give you some more chocolate stuff for next Easter!
