Good Hotel, Great Location

A good business class hotel. The "double" beds are of the "Dick van Dyke Show" variety, so it's not ideal for honeymooners. However, you can't beat the location. It's just minutes from Gamla Stan, the Djurgaarden ferry docks, and the Viking Line docks. Nice breakfast served in the basement.

When we visited, the hotel was a member of the Skanplus consortium, offering double rooms to SkanPlus card holders for SEK 1050 per night during the summer. Unfortunately, as of January 2007, the SkanPlus program has been discontinued.

Normal rates as of January 2007 are a scalding SEK 2195 per night for a standard double during the week, SEK 1495 per night on weekends.

Unique Quality: - Ideally located near Gamla Stan

Reasonable price and great S?der location

I stayed in a "budget" class room - with its own washstand, but with toilet and shower down the hall. It worked fine for me: perhaps because I was there in the off-season, I never saw anyone else in the corridor, and my own room was comfortable. Breakfast - included in the basic rate - is served in the beautiful restaurant downstairs and is absolutely luxurious.

Unique Quality: The oldest part of the hotel indeed dates from 1647. Most of the building was used as a rest-home for seamen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it still has the feel of a "historic" building. It's not a cookie-cutter hotel, and I would definitely stay here again on a future trip to Stockholm.

Hotel Anno 1647

Room Rates:

Single: 790.00 - 1645.00 SEK
Double: 890.00 - 1845.00 SEK
Suite: 2750.00 - SEK

Unique Quality: There are 42 rooms (of which 15 are non-smoking) in the two buildings. Most of the interiors are in eighteenth century style, but with all the modern facilities you need. However, it is quite difficult to describe the rooms, because no two of them are alike and right angles are in short supply in the building! You sleep soundly in a Hästen Sheraton bed.

Over the centuries the building has accommodated many interesting occupants - everything from a tobacco factory to a silk weaving mill and the wine cellar where Bellman and his friends used to drink a glass of Portuguese port. However, the building has been a valued refuge for the travellers since 1897. History is somehow more immediate here. The knot-holes in the wooden boards have seen both nobles and commoners snoring contentedly in soft feather beds. With a little luck, one of the room's previous guests will perhaps be hanging on the wall - in a frame, of course! If you tire of their company, just turn them to face the wall. They don't usually mind. An intimate and personal character has been retained by preserving the structure and recreating the building's original interiors. When you experience part of history, you also have to experience the traditions. For example there is only one way, via the beautifully decorated stone staircase, to get up to the three floors. Exactly as it used to be.
