Tre Kronor by Pieter11
A thing you will see often during a visit to Sweden is the national symbol: Tre Kronor. This litterly means Three Crowns. It points to the period of the Union of Kalmar. In the year 1397 this union was started. It united Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Denmark was the centre of this Union. It took 125 years before the Union ended and Sweden got back its independancy, but still this period has an important influence on the country.
The Royal Palace of Sweden is still named after this period: Tre Kronor.
This symbol is also added on top of the tower of the Cityhall.
The Swedish national Icehockey team is still called Tre Kronor by the public, and all national sportteam carry the Three Crowns on their shirts.
