Winter Clothes

by likoliko2

I am am currently living in London but will be visiting Stockholm from mid December throughout January. I'm wondering if anyone knew if it's cheaper to stock up on winter clothes in London or wait until I get to Stockholm. I'm on a bit of of budget! Also, if there are any essentials needed to withstand the winter other than a scarf, gloves, hat, coat, warm shoe- please let me know! Thanks!

I think Stockholm might be even a more expensive city than London, so maybe buy things at Primark or some London stores. Just a hint... Uniqlo in London sells long-sleeved tee shirts that are made in Japan and supposed to insulate like long underwear but are very thin. I bought some last winter and love them! They come in different colours and fold right up and don't crease. I'd take a few of those along to have as an extra layer.

long johns! Absolutely couldn't do without.
I wore them under leather trousers because I find that the wind doesn't come through (wind gives more cold than the actual temperature).

Good socks. You have these knee-high skiing socks that are very warm.

Buy your clothes in London! Stockholm is expensive! Possibly, buy your clothes on-line here in the UK ---cheaper still!
A good quality hat and a couple of pairs of good quality gloves are essential. Socks too!
Of course you are on a rather tight budget ---but you would regret not having appropriate clothing because it is cold there at this time of year!

Travel Tips for Stockholm

Stockholm Card

by bijo69

If you are up to some serious sightseeing it's a good idea to get the Stockholm card. It gives you unlimited use of the city's public transport system, free admission to 75 museums and free sightseeing tours by boat.
The card is available for 24, 48 or 72hrs costing 290, 420 and 540 SEK.
In order to take full advantage of the card, plan your day. Wednesdays are a good choice e.g., as some museums are open until 8pm.
I bought my card at the City Hall, but there are many more points of sale.

I was in Stockholm for 2 days in 1999, I don't have any good looking photos for you. Can you believe that was my first time photography with a Nikon compact camera cost me only about U$45.00. Luckily this photo is at least 'okay' to show you. I am not sure where this river is or what name but it's somewhere in the city, behing me was the railway station, a walk futher was the Museum or something, overall it's an easy one for me after a long trip with leg walkings everyday.

Services for the Handicapped

by tini58de

There is a good coverage for aids for handicapped people: I did see quite a few ramps and signs showing access for wheelchairs, on all of the traffic lights you have acoustic signals for the blind and in buses and the metro you have visual displays showing you the name of the next stop and/or the final destination, so that hearing impaired persons will have their information as well (quite handy for foreign visitors as well!!!)

Go to the Tre Kronor Museum,...

Go to the Tre Kronor Museum, you can see guards marching in and out. And there is also museum and beautiful things in there. Nowadays, Tre Kronor is no longer a palace where the king stays. I was with two of my bestfriends then, having a wonderful time together.

Systembolaget

by gugi66

If you want to buy alcohol in Sweden then you must go to Systembolaget. They are the only ones who is alowed to sell alcohol. You must be over 21 years to buy alcohol in Systembolaget.

This shopps you can see all over town.

DONT FORGET YOUR ID OR PASSPORT IF YOU LOOK YOUNG.
