Stockholm Nightlife: Help & Advice needed

by drumcode

Hey folks!

I travelling to Stockholm for a long weekend in June and would really appreciate a few tips regarding bars and clubs in Stockholm.

I've done a fair bit of research here and on similar websites but many questions remain unaswered. I've even read a few horror stories about foreigners unable to get into clubs (not sure whether that applies to all foreigners or whether it's a racial issue). Is that true???

My next concern is the dress code. I'm well aware that places like Sturekompagniet are smart only, but what about 360 Club and Soedermalm in general? Where can I can get it wearing trainers/sneakers, please?

Basically, I'd welcome any tips on where to go out. I'm looking to mingle with the locals and don't mind about the music too much but looking to avoid rock and jazz. As I've never been to Scandinavia, any tips regarding interaction with the locals would also come in handy.

Cheers.

Good to see a fellow Couchsurfer around here :)

I generally feel that Södermalm is more relaxed and welcoming than Östermalm. My personal favourite during summer is Mosebacke terrace if the weather is nice, it's also nice to go to Södra Bar. I've never experienced any dresscode issues there and the crowd has been very mixed.
As mentioned people will leave town during the Midsummer weekend and another weekend to look out for is the 19th when the royal wedding is on.

Vantage Points

by HORSCHECK

Stockholm has many nice vantage points to enjoy magnificent views of Stockholm. The historic street "Fjallgatan" and the green park "Skinnarviksparken" at the north shore of Sodermalm offer great views of Djurgarden, Gamla Stan, Riddarholmen and Kungsholmen.
Near the Metro stop Slussen you find the lift Katarinahissen, which has a viewing platform at 38 metres. Finally theTV tower "Kaknastornet" offers the best panoramic overview of the city (see my Must See Activities).

Slussen

by NC_Ziggy

From Slussen you can jump on the subway and in ten minutes be at the Central Station... upon returning to our hotel we exited the subway here and had only a ten minute bus ride... very convenient especially if you have a Stockholm card!

Stockholm Tip

by eva_oberg

Stockholm is an international city with many religions, languages and food from all over the world. The latest contributing element is the new mosque on Söder. Built quite close to the beautiful Katarina church, the culture shock is inevitable.

A tip on tipping...

by Maline

In Stockholm as in the rest of Sweden, tips are supposed to be included on the check at restaurants. However, more and more people still tend to tip a little. If you are unhappy with something, then you shouldn't give a tip, but if the service was good and the food was good, give a little. 10 percent is a good amount.
If your bill ends up at 243 kronor though, you will probably give 250 even if the service was bad, seems petty to scramble the coins...!
