Very good map of Stockholm
by Pieter11
If you want to know where all the different islands are positioned, or if you are wondering where to find the major attractions on these islands. If you are looking for the place where the ferries depart and arrive, or if you want to know how the streets are called again, this map can be a very good help. It's the best one I could find and it can be a great help if you are planning a trip to Stockholm:

Neighbourhoods in Stockholm
by Maline
Stockholm is built on several islands. Between the islands are a number of brigdes, and it is perhaps this presence of water everywhere that has earned Stockholm it's reputation as one of the most beautiful capitals in the world.
Be this as it may, the fact that the different parts of the city are constructed on different islands means that the boundaries between the neighbourhoods are quite distinct and so are the different characters.
I'll try and give a short desciption of the different parts that make up inner city Stockholm in the following tips.
They start on the next general tips. Here is an overview picture to help you on your way... Lying around in the parks in summertime...and sunbathing on a sailing boat in the middle of central Stockholm.
(in the pic it doesn't look like it is too warm though, but it is from early spring.
The tower is closed
by wadekorzan
When I visited in May 2004, the tower of the city hall (Stadshuset) was closed due to a recent fire and it was not possible to go up for the beautiful view of Stockholm. If you are interested in going up the tower, be sure to check at the ticket booth inside city hall to see if it has been reopened.
If you are looking for a view from above of Stockholm and the tower is still closed, I would recommend going to metro stop "Slussen" on Sodermalm. There you have an old lift that takes you up for a great view of the city. The lift is called Katarinahissen, and it's open from 7:30 AM - 10 PM Monday through Saturday and from 10 AM - 10 PM on Sundays. There's a charge of 5 Swedish Krone to go up.
The three crowns on top of the city hall tower are the symbol of Swedish power and you'll see these three crowns everywhere in Stockholm (and Sweden!).

(Monday-Friday 12.00, Saturday-sunday 13.00).
