2 day stockholm trip

by sunshineonjesse

I would be in Stockholm on weekend Sat-Sun only in July. Will anything be open at all ? Will this be enough time to see significant places of Sweden ?

In July most of the attractions, events and other things you would lka to visit is open. This is due to the fact that July is the traditional Swedish holiday month and everyone wants to get their piece of the touristcake.

Two days in any town, is for me at least, not enough to explore a city, especially one with so much to offer as Stockholm. Depending on what you are interested in you can always find something interesting to see.

Go through the tips here at virtual tourist or visit http://beta.stockholmtown.com/en/ (the official stockholm vistors guide) to explore more in detail what you would like to do.

Significant places of Sweden: NO. Significant places of Stockholm: YES. But I agree with Joacim that two days is in general too little for Stockholm since there is so much to see. Still, it's better than nothing!

Everything is open for tourist in July since it's one of the few warmer months here and a traditional holiday month for Swedes themselves. What you will find though, is that some restaurants can be closed as they take leave when they don't have business travellers. A particular (and to me as a Swede, annoying) Swedish thing. But you will have no problem finding a restaurant open, and especially not in the Old Town and the tourist areas. Not at all.

Feel free to check my page for things to see. If I had only two days, I would concentrate on the Old Town, the City Hall and a boat trip to the archipelago. If the weather is awful or you have more time after this, I would add the Vasa Museum.

Hi there,

I work in Stockholm and most stores and museums are open on saturdays and sundays. 2 days is a short time for a city like Stockholm but I think you will find some things to do here when you arrive. I recommend a stroll in the Old City (Gamla Stan) where you also can see the Castle. Welcome & have nice trip!

Travel Tips for Stockholm

Boat trips and clean water

by YPie

I love the way Stockholm is built on water. The boats criss crossing the harbour between the islands and heading off inland and out into the Archipelago really give Stockholm a special character.

You really have to do get on a boat or two (or five or six...) while you're in Stockholm, it really was a highlight of my trip.

It wasn't warm enough when I was there, but I can imagine people swimming in the clean water, a lovely thing to be able to do in a city.

It's a wonderful setting and a lovely city. Fondest memory would have to be the clear blue skies first thing in the morning and last thing at night and the lovely reflections on the waterways.

And the ferries heading off across the Baltic on a clear sunny summers evening with crowds of people on he back looking out on the city centre. It makes you reember that the water isn't just a historical thing giving the city it's former power, but a living breathing feature of the city that gives it life every day.

In the summer-months there are...

by mr_cheese

In the summer-months there are a lot of Festivals, Open-Airs and other 'outdoor-happenings'. While we were there, there was the 'American-Festival'. Not very big, but with great Live-Acts. the warm summer sun, which shines till late in the night (in summer).
no ... actually the blue eyed girls ... ;-)

More Sights and Sounds of Stockholm

This picture was taken just outside the main transportation terminal adjacent to the open area previously shown, the Galleria Mall, and Sergel Square all in the immediate area. If you walk down the street behind me here, it will lead you to Gamla Stan and the charm of the "Old Town".

Well this few lines only for say you that the pictures you see below are the Opera of Stockholm and a Viking Boat that during the summer is a pub and restaurant. The palace you can see behind the boat is the National Museum.

A swedish wedding

by michelle_x11

By chance we saw the couple of this wedding get ouf the church in Gamla Stan, directly behind the palace. All guests wore lod traditional clothes and this was intersting to look at. i wonder if all swedish couples are wearing these clothes...
