Sightseeing and eating around Stockholm C for a 3hours?

by chaarvee

Hello,

I have a 3 hours at Stockholm C and was wondering what are the tourist or other interesting places I can visit that would be a short walk from Stockholm C?
Also what are some inexpensive places to grab a bite? The food options available and the average cost per person?
Thanks

I answered your question about sightseeing on the other thread, and as for eating, I think you can find something affordable at this food court called "Kungshallen" (http://www.kungshallen.nu/).

Or, check out the many restaurants along Drottninggatan (the pedestrian street) and adjacent streets, usually there's lunch specials for anywhere from 6,5 to 10 euros p/p including: bread, coffee, a main course and a soft drink (and sometimes instead of a main course, an all you can eat buffet) and this is what most locals do when they eat out.

Is it safe carrying a big lugguage wandering around Drottninggatan in the afternoon for 3 hours before taking the train that leaves Stockholm C at 8PM?

Just at Stockholm C, which is within walking distance from Drottninggatan.

Stockholm is very safe, but why be bogged down lumbering luggage for all those hours? Leave it in a locker, so you can relax and wander around the city carefree!!

I would walk into the Old Town where you also find restaurants for all sorts of budgets. Just don't stray too far but make sure you have time to get back - there is just a road flyover and a bridge to cross and you're there but once there you will want to get lost in little side streets :)))

Travel Tips for Stockholm

History of Stockholm

The history of Stockholm

In these general tips I want to give you a timeline of Stockholm's history. I love digging into history and reading all about a place I am going to or have been. It gives so much more meaning to the things I see during my trip. A square for example can come to life when you know what happened there in times gone by. It's not only the beauty you see, but also the story buildings can tell. And I am probably not the only one to enjoy this, so that's why I made this history section on my page. The timeline brought the history of Stockholm for me in a much better perspective and I can hardly wait to get back to Stockholm and have another look around, but now with this newly gained info. I hope you will enjoy reading it!

More about language and funny translations

by marielexoteria

And speaking of funny translations, here are some words that sometimes make me make mistakes when reading or speaking, because of their meaning in Spanish:

Oro (Swedish for anxiety, preoccupation) = Spanish for gold.
Sida (Swedish for page) = Spanish for AIDS.
Gata (Swedish for street) = Spanish for female cat.

More to come.

GAMLA STAN (Old Town) ...

by LysDor

GAMLA STAN (Old Town)

It is located on the tiny island of Riddarholmen, is the picturesque core of the 'Venice of the North'. The Old Town's main streets, Österlånggatan and Västerlånggatan, are pedestrianised and lined with shops but still you can feel an unspoilt medieval ambience coming from the strong colored buildings!

The narrowest street is only 90cm large!

The warship Vasa sinks in Stockholm Harbour

This is the large warship Vasa. Nowadays it is the only remaining and intact 17th century ship in the world. When the Vasa set sail in 1628 she was one of the mightiest warship in the world. With 64 guns and 300 soldiers she was to put fear in the hearts of the enemy. But it never got that far, the ship sank after just a few minutes of sailing.

Tipping is not a place in China ;-)

by minique

When I have visited Stockholm I have been told that tourist guides and waitresses/waiters, bellboys are not to be tipped. The last time that I visited Stockholm I had the god luck of being able to have an inofficial discussion with a touristguide. She told me that these persons (tourist guides and waitresses/waiters, bellboys etc) have the really lousy wages just like every where else in the world. So, don't be shy with your tipping. The person that says that it would offend the receiver is probably not a tourist guide and waitress/waiter or a bellboy himself.
