A few days, but on a ship-hostel. Intersting place to stay, if you like new experiences...
It is located in the Skeppsholmen (or Shiphome) island, in front of Gamla Stan and near the main city places in downtown. Good mobility.

The Af Chapman is a huge boat placed solidly on the bottom of the water just beside Skeppsholmen. The hostel is member of the swedish youth hostel federation, STF.
On the land just beside the boat is another youth hostel if you prefer solid ground under your feet.
I have never actually stayed at the hostel but I would love to some day as it is very centrally located, close to the water and has a splendid view over Söder and the old town. If you walk to the other side of Skeppsholmen you'll be overlooking the island of Djurgården with the famous Vasa museum and Gröna Lund amusement park as prominent landmarks Leave a Comment

This is a boat you will probably see on your trip to Stockholm. It is beautifully located and hard to miss. But it is not 'just' a boat. It is in fact a youth hostel. The af Chapman is moored at Skeppsholmen, where she has been used as a youth hostel since 1949. I tried to get reservations here on my trip to Stockholm, but unfortunately everything was full. So if you want to stay here make sure you make your reservations on time.

I have stayed in this unique youth hostel twice: in 1984 and in 2006 and both times it was quite an adventure!
This youth hostel has two accomodation facilities: you can sleep either on the boat or in the main building right across the street. Sleeping on the boat is fun, but you just may not be claustrophobic - everything is very narrow plus they only have bunk beds there! No single rooms available, double rooms or dormitories with 6 or 10 beds.
You can rent linnens and towels and can book extra breakfast (see my restaurant tips!), the reception is open 24/7 and the staff is very friendly!
The location is the absolute +++ plus of this accomodation: right across from Gamla Stan and within walking distance to most of Stockholm's sights!
The af Chapman might be towed away for renovation from August 2006 - so check that out beforehand! Leave a Comment

Moored off Skeppsholmen, this authentic three-masted schooner has been converted into a youth hostel ideal for families. The price for this hostel is around: 220 SEK/room.
Staterooms have two, four, six, or eight beds; there are no single cabins. Each section -- one for men, one for women -- has showers and washrooms. Personal lockers are available. The gangplank goes up at 2am, with no exceptions, and there's a 5-day maximum stay. The rooms are closed from 11am to 3pm. No cigarette smoking is allowed. A summer cafe operates on the ship's deck.
