At my stay there in 1998, the cost for a bed in a dormitory room was 130 SEK (23 CDN$) a night.
Unique Quality: A very pleasant youth hostel. It's actually a real three-mast boat with a 18th century look (The boat is unfortunately closed during the winder, but the hostel operates on a near building). Very clean and comfortable, but quite expensive.
This is a boat you will probably see on your trip to Stockholm. It is beautifully located and hard to miss. But it is not 'just' a boat. It is in fact a youth hostel. The af Chapman is moored at Skeppsholmen, where she has been used as a youth hostel since 1949. I tried to get reservations here on my trip to Stockholm, but unfortunately everything was full. So if you want to stay here make sure you make your reservations on time.

Moored off Skeppsholmen, this authentic three-masted schooner has been converted into a youth hostel ideal for families. The price for this hostel is around: 220 SEK/room.
Unique Quality: Staterooms have two, four, six, or eight beds; there are no single cabins. Each section -- one for men, one for women -- has showers and washrooms. Personal lockers are available. The gangplank goes up at 2am, with no exceptions, and there's a 5-day maximum stay. The rooms are closed from 11am to 3pm. No cigarette smoking is allowed. A summer cafe operates on the ship's deck. Breakfast, at an extra charge, is available in the self-service coffee bar and dining room. International Youth Hostel Association cards can be obtained at the af Chapman.
Directions: On Skeppsholmen.
af Chapman - a wonderful ship turned into a hostel. I believe it was 140 KR if you're a member, breakfast and linens extra. A great deal, considering the high cost of accomodations throughout the city.
Unique Quality: It was wonderful staying on a ship -- very secure, hardly any motion, lovely location. Do watch your head if you're tall! Breakfast served in the hostel's building next door, and there's a cafe on the ship if you want to eat lunch on deck. Helpful staff. Due to the unique qualities of this hostel, I'd suggest booking early.
