Managing the budget in Stockholm

Hotel Bema is that oh-so- rare commodity - a budget accommodation option in Stockholm. These are few and far between and having dug my heels in at paying EUR200 + for a windowless room with bunk beds and no breakfast included, I was happy to grab any budget hotel that came my way.

As you might expect, Hotel Bema is not luxurious but its location 10 minutes from Central Station was ideal. We were able to walk to and from the old town in about 20 minutes and by crossing over the little park across the road, arrive at the top end of Drottnigatan and a straight run downtown.

The hotel is on the ground floor of one of the apartment blocks on Upplandsgatan and reception is open whenever you arrive. Our room was not a whole lot smaller than the standard twin/double and the bathroom was fine. Breakfast is served in your room at whatever time you order it and is delivered by one of the reception staff. We got a pot of coffee, large glasses of orange juice, chunky bread rolls, smoked ham, cheese, butter and jam. More than enough for anybody with even a large appetite and very tasty as well.

For three nights this room cost , what I could have quite easily paid for a double at any of the large chains, for just one night. So what was the catch ? Unfortunately, the beds were old and not terribly comfortable. Not excruciatingly uncomfortable but not exactly what you need after a long days sightseeing either.

Apart from this I would recommend Hotel Bema, as well-located, clean, quiet and excellent value for money.

Unique Quality: Budget hotel ! Pretty rare in Stockholm.
